Amazon has just put the Fire TV Stick 4K on sale for $24.99 as part of a large sale that includes many other Amazon devices. At 50% off its regular price of $49.99, this matches the lowest price that the Fire TV Stick 4K has ever been, however, this is the first time that the newer bundle with the new remote has ever been this low. The new remote includes a channel guide button, which opens the Fire TV’s built-in live TV program guide, and 4 app shortcut buttons, which can be remapped to open any app using my Remapper utility. If you prefer the Fire TV Stick 4K with the older remote, that bundle is also available for $24.99. While the new Fire TV Stick 4K Max is a very impressive device, it’s over twice the price at $54.99 and has never been on sale. If you don’t need the absolute best 4K stick, then the regular Fire TV Stick 4K is still a great buy, especially now that it has been rejuvenated a bit with the newer remote.
Sounds like Amazon is clearing there inventory to push the 4k max more. The 4k is likely to be discontinued soon.
Amazon is absolutely not clearing its inventory and is not about to discontinue the Fire TV Stick 4K. If that were true, they would not have released the new bundle with the new remote. Without the regular 4K Stick, Amazon wouldn’t have anything to compete with the Roku Express 4K and budget Android TV 4K devices. I wrote about it here https://www.aftvnews.com/roku-likely-reason-for-increased-fire-tv-stick-4k-discounts-and-what-it-means-for-future-models/ The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is too expensive and the Fire TV Stick is only 1080p so they can’t compete head-to-head with budget 4K devices. The Fire TV Stick 4K will stick around and be heavily discounted until either the Stick 4K Max drops down to $40 or a new budget 4K Stick is released. That’s not going to happen for at least a year and, in my opinion, more likely 2 years.
100% Agree. The 4k Stick was released 3 years ago today. If you look up the Fire TV Wikipedia History page it’s next in line to be discontinued. I noticed something (that I had not before) on the Amazon Store page for the 4K Stick it states:
“This device receives guaranteed software security updates until at least four years after the device is last available for purchase as a new unit on our websites.”
Anyone who purchases this needs to understand the difference between “Security Updates” and “Feature/OS Updates”. Once the OS updates stop, it’s only a matter of time before apps start to break/malfunction.
I’m actually working on an article about software support and when it will end for each model. Should be up tomorrow.
The Max and even FS Lite are so much easier to expand, the 4K requires ADB Shell and tedious command prompts. I would opt for the Max, better device and simple expansion. More powerful!
Hi, any idea of when the Fire TV Stick 4K will get Fire OS 7? I’m still deciding whether to get the 4k max or just the 4k because of Dolby Atmos support on netflix is only available for Fire OS 7 which if im not mistake the 4k still hasn’t received.
Get the fire tv stick 4k max
Since Fire OS 7 has been out since 2019, you should just assume that, at this point, no Fire OS 6 or Fire OS 5 devices will ever be updated Fire OS 7.
Tempting for the new remote, but I already have a few of the 4k sticks. I opted to get the Onn 4k streamer from Walmart instead as it’s only 19.88 right now. I like to have different streamers available to test out and play with
FYI if you buy it just to get the new remote, it will not pair with gen2 fire cubes. There are numerous 1 star reviews and I have a support case opened because I bought 3 to use with my 2 fire cubes and none will pair with either cube.
