Amazon Fire TV Serial Number Decoder

Enter an Amazon Fire TV serial number in the field above to see information regarding its rootability and origin. For more information, see my post on how to decode the Fire TV’s serial number. Note that serial numbers entered are not stored or even transmitted over the internet. Decoding occurs completely in your browser. A sample serial number to try is 709002014106.

Great… Just picked up 2 more rootable versions at Staples. Too bad I had to pay full price.

What are the differences between the hardware and unit revisions. I have a 1st and 3rd revision.

AFTVNews. Please update your serial decoder to remove the series 2 as those with the very old firmware has to be updated to the latest version. The ethernet removal trick does not work on those series. I’ve gone through 10 units this weekend and all the units with Series 3 work with the ethernet removal trick.

Another point to note here is there is no longer the incremental update. It updates to latest. So don’t hold your breath like earlier hoping for an increment. There is an extensive thread on XDA.

Example Get the Series 3 such as. 70900305xxxxx. Don’t get the 2 Series. Hope this helps someone.

Just went to best buy and the first one I put in the decoder said it was likely rootable.
    It’s a series 3 as well:

    Likely Software Version: 51.1.1.0
    Manufactured By Foxconn on 8/15/2014
    Hardware Revision: 03
    Unit Revision 05

Will find out soon if it’s rootable and hopefully the ethernet trick to get it to fully start without a update works.

    • Asadani says:

Series 3 is surely rootable with the Ethernet trick. I’ve done 3 of those and I will done one for myself as an extra one tonight . Good luck and let us know how it goes. You’ll mostly have to downgrade it to get back up.

      • Asadani says:

I got the series 3 yesterday. They had 10 pieces a day earlier and I picked up the last one yesterday. Got it rooted with the ethernet trick. Good luck to all.

Is (HW Rev 03 Unit Rev 03) or (HW Rev 03 Unit Rev 05) the preferred version?

I’ve seen both 03/03 and 03/05 out there and unsure which one to hunt for or if there’s an even better version to look for.

  10. Asadani says:

    By series 3 I mean 305 or 303 or 304.

    70900 305 431207QQ

    Hope this helps

best buy in my area beginning to stock unrootable boxes

  12. DruTheFu says:

Just received my second AFTV box. While the Serial Number tool displays that my device is rootable, when checking the software version, it displays 51.1.4.2_user_514015320 , and according to the chart, NOT rootable.

    Oh well, time to sideload

    • Sam says:

Same thing happened to me as well. I took all the precautions of not allowing it to auto update as the serial number said Root was possible. But after all the effort the software version was the one from December.

  13. santi says:

    Purchased 10 from best buy all unrootable :{

  14. Curlyp says:

Does anyone know if the new versions of the Amazon Fire TV will be rootable in the near future? Or do I specifically have to find one that is able to be rooted? I considering taking advantage of the Sling offer and picking up a Fire TV for $34; hopefully it can be rooted!

Is it still possible to find rootable FTVs in store or an i wasting my time.

  16. Arfali says:

I do not have video nor audio signal on my Fire Stick TV. It is not a network nor Internet connection cause I do have video+audio on a 2nd Fire Stick TV so I am wonder if it must re-flashed or something else related to the firmware. I do not know either how to pull Serial Number up. Thx
