Get this Fire TV Recast Deal
The Amazon Fire TV Recast is back on sale for $149.99. That’s $20 more than the lowest price that it has ever been. That price is for the 500GB / 2-tuner version of Amazon’s DVR which integrates itself into the default Fire TV user interface. The 1TB / 4-tuner model is on sale for $199.99. Both of those deals are $80 off of their regular price. Also on sale is the Fire TV Cube for $99.99 and the Fire TV Stick 4K for $34.99.
Will Amazon allow customers to have more than one Recast on their account?
No. I’ve tested this. You can’t even set up the second recast if you already have one associated with your account.
Do you know why there is a one recast per account restriction?
Think Recast needs a refresh. True 1080i/p output vs. 720p and compatibility with devices other than Fire TV. Probably just wishing thinking, but nonetheless.
The HD recordings are transcoded to 720p as they are recorded. There aren’t any 1080p shows being broadcasted, but there are some 1080i shows. Don’t think Amazon will change internal process of transcoding while recording.
The Fire TV Recast stores all recordings in their raw MPEG-2 format, without any transcoding. So, 1080i broadcasts are recorded/stored at full 1920×1080 resolution. It’s only when the recordings are played back on a Fire TV that they get transcoded to 720p h.264.
