I did a pre release order of the 1TB model and got it 11/14/18. I already had a roof antenna that sits 40′ above the ground and I am 24 miles east of the NYC broadcast towers. I get 68 OTA channels including CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, ION, Several PBS channels… My reception through the Recast tuner is superb. Better than without it. The Recast box is sitting on a shelf in my basement just above my router. I am driving 5 TVs with the Recast with only one antenna wire that runs to the Recast. All other antenna wires have been removed. 4 of the 5 Fire TVs use Ethernet and one uses WiFi. I have been a Prime member since 2008 and enjoy many Prime offerings including Man in the High Castle in 4K UHD. I dumped DirecTV at the end of last year as we were only watching 3 of the 200 channels we were way overpaying for. In less than 4 months the removal of DirecTVs hand from my wallet will have paid for all my new stuff that brings with it a monthly cost of $0.00. I only have some small gripes so far. I get occasional skipping on recorded shows that I am hoping will be fixed with a firmware update. It is infrequent but noticeable. One other gripe has already been fixed and that was the inability to delete a single episode of a series if there were more than one saved. It was all or none. I learned from that one the hard way when I deleted all 7 recorded episodes of Leverage. Like I said, that has been fixed. All and all I am quite pleased with my new $0 recurring monthly cost setup. It comes without surcharges, equipment rental charges, taxes, fees and other add-ons and it is completely immune from regular increases in those same items.

Is Prime required for this thing to work? I can’t seem to find that answer. I’m not subscribed to Prime.

Thanks for the review. Having a sensitive tuner makes me more likely to buy at some point.

The 5 TVs that each had their own antenna connections that used the built in tuners on the TVs got slightly different results off the same antenna. One would not get sound on CBS, just picture. Others sometimes had occasional pixelation issue on some of the non network channels. Now with the Recast all signals are solid with no CBS sound issues.

      “I get 68 OTA channels…” It’s not the quantity, it’s the quality.

Why are you using the same argument that the cable companies use? And don’t tell me that it’s because using this device is cheaper than cable, since this device is not needed to receive the OTA signals.

      • Justin Seine says:

Real simple! 4 tuner DVR – with a no cost lineup schedule to set up recordings.

If you read my post you would have seen that I have had an OTA antenna for years. Only problem? – The only no cost recording capability I had was a single AVER Media tuner connected to my windows media center.

Thinking of getting this once my Table DVR bites the dust. Anyone with experience using both? I love Tablo’s setup and am looking forward to the automatic commercial skip, but if Recast can offer a compelling reason to go with that instead I will. Any opinions?

Ask BestBuy to pricematch the item and they will do it.

Do you think Amazon will ever offer streaming cable channels much like The HD Homerun offers?
