With today’s addition of the game Sleeping Souls, the Amazon Fire TV library has reached 500 apps. The Fire TV has achieved this milestone 145 days after its April 2nd launch, averaging about 2 new apps per day. New apps from big names like Disney, MLB, and WWE have recently strengthened the Fire TV app offering. Apps expected to land later this year, like NFL Now, Watch ABC, and Spotify, paint a promising picture for the future of the Fire TV app ecosystem. 450 games and 50 actual streaming services is hardly a “milestone”. Let’s see…50 streaming services vs. 1000+ streaming services on ROKU…

Agreed. The Roku is a great little device, but it seems like it has reached its peak and has been stale for a while. I see a lot more potential in the Fire TV, and I’ll take quality over quantity, when it comes to apps, any day.
Agree that potential is there, but Amazon appears to be restricting content streaming apps so as to not take away from Prime and their paid offerings. I have a feeling Google’s Android TV will squash AFTV in this regard, and if the developer ADT-1 is any indication, 16GB or more storage, better UI, hopefully more. Price is key… Android TV will need to be $99 or less.

Because he is obviously an Amazon exec. It has nothing to do with the time it takes to code for a specific ecosystem and the priority companies have to make in order to code for the countless different platforms now available…
