Amazon has just released the Fire TV Cube in India. This is the first time Amazon’s flagship Fire TV model has been available in India, where, before today, the Fire TV Stick 4K was the best Fire TV model one could buy. In another first, the Fire TV Cube for India is being bundled with the new Alexa Voice Remote which, unlike past remotes, includes app buttons. This is the first time the Fire TV Cube in any region has been bundled with the new remote.
This Fire TV Cube launching in India is the same 2nd-generation Fire TV Cube that first launched in the US in 2019, although Amazon is labeling it as a “2021 release” because, unlike the “2019 release” version in other regions, it comes with the new remote that was released earlier this year. Packed inside are the same 2.2GHz Hexa-core Amlogic S922Z CPU and Mali G52-MP2 GPU that makes the Fire TV Cube outperform every Fire TV model before it and outperform nearly every other major Android-based streaming device on the market. It still supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG variants of 4K high dynamic range video, as well as Dolby Atmos audio. There’s still 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage to go along with 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 all running on Fire OS 7.
The Fire TV Cube in India is priced at ₹12,999 (~$172 USD). That may seem high, but it’s on par with the Fire TV Stick models in India, which are also priced about 40% higher than their US equivalent prices. In what I believe to be a first for any Fire TV device in any region, Amazon is offering a free HDMI cable if it’s added to your cart when you purchase the Fire TV Cube. In addition to the new Alexa Voice Remote, packed in with the Fire TV Cube are the same accessories found in other regions, which include a 10/100 Ethernet adapter and an IR extender so that it can control home theater equipment both inside and outside of cabinets.
This release in India marks the 9th region that the Fire TV Cube is now available in, joining the US, UK, Germany, Canada, Japan, France, Italy, and Spain. Australia, Brazil, and Mexico, which just saw the release of the Fire TV Stick 4K in their countries for the first time earlier this year, now remain as the only regions with Fire TV devices for sale that still cannot purchase the Fire TV Cube.
