A procedure to fully unlock the Amazon Fire TV’s bootloader has been discovered. The procedure developed by dpeddi was created to unlock Amazon’s Fire HDX 8.9 tablet. Several people have confirmed the same procedure works on the Fire TV. This is different from the partial bootloader unlock created by rbox which relies on a bug to trick the device into thinking it’s unlocked. Having the bootloader fully unlocked should grant access to the full suite of fastboot commands and open up more modding options. The unlock procedure is a bit complex, but rbox has let me know that he’s working on a program that will perform the unlock procedure automatically. Once that program is complete, I’ll write a full guide. Stay tuned.
Will this allow root on the new software?
No, device must be rooted.
Good to know but where is root for new firmware?! I swithced to android considering that the root is easily available as compated to iOS….there are very frequent jailbraking findings now a days :)
If you’re not satisfied with the pace of root development, Monica, I suggest you ask for a full refund of the money you paid towards its development.
Or if you’re dissatisfied/impatient with the current state of rootability you could always just magically come up with a new root method yourself.
Or, you know, sell the thing and find a rootable one on ebay or something. They’re not exactly rare.
And who askd you to become ‘Devil’s Advocate’ . I am just sharing my point of view nothing short of complain about the rooting system. I appreciate all the guys who put thier effort in serving this community.
Don’t expect me to reply on your next comments :).
I am here just because of Aftvnews.com
As a regular user, what does this mean? What benefits will I see by unlocking the bootloader?
Regular users should not even be asking questions about this. No benefit to you.
