Amazon Fire Tablets gain new Smart Home Dashboard

Amazon has added a new Smart Home Dashboard to a few of their newer Fire 7, Fire HD 8, and Fire HD 10 tablets. Similar to the smart home dashboard available on Echo Show devices and the dashboard available on Fire TVs, this tablet dashboard gives you quick access to control smart lights, plugs, thermostats, cameras, and more.

The new Smart Home Dashboard for Fire tablets can be accessed by selecting the new house-shaped icon added to the bottom left of the navigation bar. Placement here makes it available from anywhere, including the tablets lock screen, so the dashbaord is always just one tap away. The dashboard is currently only available on the latest Fire 7 (2019) tablet, latest Fire HD 8 (2020) and Fire HD 8 Plus (2020) tablet, latest Fire HD 10 (2019) tablet, as well as the previouse generation 2018 Fire HD 8 tablet. It’s unknown if Amazon will be adding the dashboard to older tablet models in the future. The dashboard is currently rolling out, so it may not yet be available on your comaptible tablet.

The Smart Dashboard features quick toggles at the top to turn on or off all lights, switches, or plugs at once. Lower down is a grid of individual smart home devices that can be customized. You can pin certain devices to keep them at the front of the list and recently used smart devices will be closer to the front as well. The dashboard shows the state of each device and allows you to change its state, but if you want to add or manage a device, you’ll still need to do that through the Alexa app.

Hello, is this when the Fire Tablet is already in Show Mode?

    • It’s not tied to Show Mode. At any point, you can swipe up from the bottom to bring up the navigation bar and tap the Smart Home Dashboard icon.

on my last gen fire HD 8 it does seem to be tied to show mode but it is also not working for me
but i have installed nova launcher and used PM disable on the fire launcher to disable it
now when i swipe down to get to the quick settings in show mode i see an icon of a house that says home but it is greyed out and clicking on it just exits the quick settings menu altogether ,it does nothing
and when i turn off show mode and swipe down twice from the top and go to quick settings menu the house icon in not there at all

What Fire OS is required for this feature?

Here’s hoping they will add this to the older tablets. I have an 8″ and a 10″, both 2017 models. Personally, I would dedicate the 8″ just to this app and mount it on the wall. It certainly beats having to set up Home Assistant, though of course not nearly as powerful. But if your Smarthome accessories are all Alexa compatible, this looks like it would be just the ticket.

I have the latest 10th Gen HD8 running OS 7.3.1.6 but that icon does not appear. Does anyone know if its country specific at the moment? I’m based in the UK.

Neither of mine have the icon in the bar yet including newest 10″. I can get to it however on the top pull down taskbar, and have been able to before this was announced. Just swipe down twice. You will then see the button. Layout is a little different, but you can get to everything.

Looks like maybe it’s being rolled out, but not complete. I have a 2018 Fire HD 8 tablet and it’s saying in Amazon Alexa App “For the best experience, update to the latest version” but there is nothing to update – I’m running 2.2.302167.0 of Amazon Alexa and Fire OS 7.3.1.5 but no Smart Home Dashboard icon. So it’s a wait and see :-)

Same here, have a fire hd plus 10 gen. No dashboard and… No device options icon just device settings so where do you check for system update!?

Unfortunately not in 7.3.1.6. Got that this morning on 2018 Fire HD 8 and do not see any of it yet. I guess another two months maybe
