The very popular and very affordable 7″ Fire Tablet is currently on sale for $39.99. If you want more than the default 8GB of internal storage, the 16GB model is also on sale for just $20 more, although you may not need it since this tablet has a microSD card slot. Pop in simethng like this 32GB microSD card for $9.99 and you’re good to go. This tablet packs in a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and a 7 hour battery.
Still rootable?
As far as I know it is. I love this inexpensive tablet. Rooted it and use it as my dedicated music player that serves music to simultaneously play on all my airplay/cast stations in the house.
How did you root it if you don’t mind me asking…
You can root, but you’ll have to downgrade from the version of Fire OS it ships with. There’s currently no root for the 2 latest versions.
For 40 bucks, this was an easy impulse buy. I love that you can disable the homescreen ads and install the google play store without rooting.
It’s a little annoying that Vudu views it as an unlicensed device and will only play movies in SD, but Flixster Video and Cinemanow don’t have that issue, so it’s all good.
For what I paid for this, I’m a happy camper.
How did you remove the home screen ads?
I followed the instructions here http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/install-google-play-remove-lockscreen-ads-amazon-fire-tablet-without-root/
Doesn’t require root any anything other than enabling developer options and being able to connect via adb.
