The long rumored new Echo device with a built-in screen might be launching next month, according to CNET. The Wall Street Journal first reported on the new device last year and then Bloomberg later said it would have a 7-inch touchscreen. It definitely seems the new Echo, codenamed “Knight,” is at least real and very close to launch. CNET’s source says Amazon might be speeding up the launch to stay ahead of Google’s Home speaker.
Without being bias..Which one is better, the Echo or Google Home ?
They each excel in different areas, so which is better depends on the use case. Google Home is far superior at general knowledge questions, while Echo can do more specific things (through Alexa Skills) and has a far larger ecosystem of support from other services and manufacturers.
but how come the google skill for alexa is such crap then?
98% of questions i ask it i does not know but when i ask alexa the same question she knows the answer i would think that it used the same service but apparently not because the alexa skill is completely useless ,i can’t figure out why it is not the same as on google now app on my phone , do you know what sevice it actually uses because it is gimped to the pint of being almost completely worthless
it never knows the answer to anything i ask it and when it does it just reads an entry from wikipedia
also i have a nexus 6 and the google assistant is shit the voice commands to play on TV or chromecast do not work at all it didn’t work with the old now on tap version of the app either even though it is set up in the home app ,new now app with GA also breaks ok google detection from screen off on my nexus 6p
i do not know if these issues or other ones exist on the google home but going on googles track record i would steer far clear of this device
google is a horrible company and their products are unreliable pieces of crap
and their customer support is non existent ,my 6P has been broke since day one with serious mic and battery issues and neither google nor huawei will fix it even though it is still under warranty, i RMA’d it one time already and they sent the phone back the same as i sent it, still broke , they have been telling me they will RMA it again and replace it for 6 months now and every time i call which is like every 3 or 4 days they tell me 24-48 hours we will send you a shipping label, but it never arrives, this has been going on for months now, they just straight up lie to you
and now there are class action lawsuits against google and huawei for the 6p issues
they treat their users and their customers like they just booked coach on United
screw this company they do not give 2 fuks about their users or their
customers , they are only interested in collecting your data
at least Amazon has impeccable customer support
also the device has been around a lot longer nad has had years of added features and support
good luck waiting for google to add new features or fix broken ones
it will never happen because all google knows how to do is break things and remove useful features and implement useless garbage ones with each successive update
Privacy factors in as well, for Google Home is a data gathering and advertising platform. For Amazon it’s just one of many services that are designed to be useful, but have the side effect of permitting easy ordering of products. I would strongly suggest comparing privacy policies between the two if that matters to you at all, the goals are significantly difference both in intent and practice.
i wonder if this new device will have video output ,like the dot has audio output, or if they will do what they did with the echo
release scaled down version ,one with no screen but with HDMI out
