Amazon Echo can now read to you with new Audible integration

Just a few days after the Amazon Echo received Google Calendar support, the voice-controlled speaker’s rapidly growing list of capabilities has increaed again. You can now listen to audiobooks from Audible with Echo. Since Amazon owns Aubilde, there’s no account linking or setup required. Simply say “Alexa, read [book title]” to begin listening to a book in your library, or say “Alexa, read my book” to continue listening to your most recent audiobook. This new capability supports Whispersync, so Echo will pick up where you left off, regardless of which device you last listened on. To jump back or forward 30 seconds in the book, you can say “Alexa, go back/forward.” Newspaper and magazine audio subscriptions are not supported yet, nor is the ability to skip to a specific chapter. Whether you have an Echo or not, if you’ve never tried Audible, you can get a free book or two when you create an account, and help support AFTVnews in the process. Amazon is also giving away extended samples of 7 audiobooks that are each up to an hour.

I’m still waiting for post that says “Amazon Fire TV Now Support Amazon Audible Audiobooks” (It’s kinda common sense, ya know?)

I’d love that too. I think the reason the Echo is getting new features so quickly is because there’s no need to design and code an interface. It’s just back-end linking of databases. New features for the Fire TV take a lot more time to implement because, often, creating the interface is the most time consuming part.

You’re probably all aware of this now, but with the Echo integration into the Fire TV software last year, Audible is now available on Fire TV. :)
