Yesterday I speculated that current Fire TV Stick owners may receive a software update to Fire OS 5 today. That was because the new Fire TV Stick bundle, which comes with a voice remote and Fire OS 5 preinstalled, was supposed to arrive at customer’s doorsteps today. That has changed because all customers who ordered the new Stick bundle have received an email informing them that their new Fire TV Stick will not ship until November 13th. To make up for the delay, customers who ordered the new $49.99 bundle are receiving a $10 Amazon credit automatically applied to their account. Amazon is probably delaying shipments until they can finish fixing all the issues with Fire OS 5.
My order for the new Stick bundle currently has an expected arrival date of November 18th. The Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote product page currently says that new orders will “usually ship within 1 to 3 weeks.” Both the UK and German product pages list an available date of November 13th for the new bundle. It looks like Amazon learned their lesson with the botched 2nd-gen Fire TV release and are delaying orders this time instead of shipping a buggy product.
Can we opt out of Fire OS 5? Argh!
By the time it comes to older devices, it will probably be stable. But if you want, you can always block updates.
Uggh….but I shouldn’t complain. It’s much better than having a buggy OS that was prematurely released. Glad they are giving something back to those who bought the bundle.
Amazon you great galoots.
The disappointing thing is all these is over Lollipop, not even Marshmallow.
Slight error on the story.
Both the clickable links in this paragraph “Both the UK and German product pages” part of the story both point to amazon.de.
Amazon didn’t want more beta testers?
Dang it! I was ready to “Amazon Fire TV Stick” and chill this weekend. My order was also delayed.
Me too lol
Good! The new wifi remote is awful. Although mine generally works ok, the Fire TV peridocally shows the notification that it’s connected with a “new” remote, even though it’s the same one. Inexcusable that it doesn’t somehow store a unique id of the remote so it’s aware that the same remote as always is being used
I pre-ordered the maximum of 5. No sign of any credit. I did pre order quite late, the day before it was to be dispatched. But it didn’t say 13 November at the time.
Did anyone in the UK get this?
