Amazon closes Fire OS 5 Developer Preview signups for the Fire TV

It has been 5 months since Amazon announced the availablility of a Fire OS 5 Developer Preview for the 1st-gen Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The signup page used to request the developer preview software update now leads to an error page. This probably indicates that Amazon has finalized the final public version of Fire OS 5 for older devices and is ready to release it soon. We’re expecting the Fire OS 5 software update to arrive in February, so it looks like that will actually be the case. It’s unclear if those running the developer preview on their devices will automatically be updated to the final public version, but I assume that is what will happen. Amazon still has their developer preview rollback page up, so you can still request to put your device back on Fire OS 3 if you’re concerned it won’t automatically update to the public version of Fire OS 5. Just be aware that doing so will factory-reset your device when it installs the rollback update.
