Amazon announces new rounded Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Dot with Clock, and Echo Dot Kids Edition

Amazon has announced a series of new spherical ball-shaped Echo smart speakers. Seen above in the following order is the new 4th-gen Amazon Echo for $99.99, the new 4th-gen Echo Dot for $49.99, the new Echo Dot with Clock for $59.99, and the new Echo Dot Kids Edition for $59.99. While the new Amazon Echo may look just like the new Echo Dots from the outside, they’re quite different on the inside. The Echo packs in premium sound, thanks to its dual 0.8″ tweeters and 3.0″ woofer, as well as a Zigbee smart hub, while the Echo Dots have just one 1.6″ speaker.

The new 4th-generation Amazon Echo is available in Charcoal, Glacier White, and Twilight Blue. Since it now features a Zigbee smart hub, which was previously only available on the Echo Plus and Echo Show, Amazon is including a free Philips Hue Smart Bulb with every order. The built-in smart hub capabilities allow it to connect directly to certain smart devices, like Philips Hue lights, without the need of a seperate hub, like the pricey Philips Hue Smart Hub.

Apart from the additional and larger speakers, what differentiates the Echo from the Echo Dot is a new module that can process audio requests on the device itself, instead of sending everything to the cloud. This results in faster than ever requests. For more complex requests that need to go to the cloud, the new Echo now features an AZ1 Neural Edge chip to perform some processing locally which will speed up cloud responses. The new Echo is available for pre-order now for $99.99 and will ship on October 22. You can save $30 when you order two and enter code ECHO2PK at checkout.

The new 4th-generation Echo Dot is available in the same Charcoal, Glacier White, and Twilight Blue colors as the Amazon Echo, but does not come with a free bulb because it does not have a built-in smart hub. While it has the same size 1.6″ speaker as the 3rd-gen Echo Dot, which Amazon is still selling but for $10 less, the speaker in the new Echo Dot is now front-firing, instead of down-firing as it was in the old Echo Dot. This should result in improved audio. The new Echo Dot is available to pre-order now for $49.99 and will also ship on October 22. You can save $20 when you order two and enter code DOT2PACK at checkout.

Also available is the same 4th-generation Echo Dot but with a built-in clock that shines from under the device’s fabric cover. It comes in Glacier White and Twilight Blue and will run you $10 more at $59.99. The same DOT2PACK code will same you $20 on the clock version when you purchase two together.

Lastly are the new Echo Dot Kids Editions, which are available in either a Tiger face print or a Panda face print. These will run you $59.99 and come with a 1 year subscription to Amazon Kids+ (formerly Amazon FreeTime Unlimited) which provides thousands of kid-friendly audible books, interactive games, and educational skills. Once again, entering DOT2PACK at checkout will save you $20 on a pair, but you can also get an Echo Glow with the purchase of an Echo Dot Kids Edition for just $10 more.

They all look like the Echo Glow. The Kids Edition is incredibly cute though.

For the kids edition, they should add something to make it look like the animal is talking. Maybe just something to make it look like the mouth is opening or closing.
