Amazon Alexa can now playback Security Camera Recordings on Fire TVs, Fire Tablets, and Echos

Amazon has announced that Alexa can now bring up and play the last recorded video from security cameras. Prior to today, it was only possible to bring up a live feed of your compatible security camera on a Fire TV, Fire Tablet, or Echo device with a screen by saying “Alexa, show my [camera name].” Starting today, it’s now possible to say “Alexa, show the last activity at my [camera name]” to play the last recorded video clip from a security camera.

This new capability to view the last recording is already supported by Ring, Arlo, Cloud Cam, and August cameras. Amazon has released a new Camera Recap API for other manufacturers to use to add the new capability to their cameras.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to request that a specific recording be played, say, by providing a date or time with your Alexa request. For that, you’ll still need to use your camera’s native interface, since only the most recently stored video by each camera can be played by Alexa.

Will this work with Blink cams?

Good question, I would hope so.

In fact I wonder when Amazon will merge Ring, Blink, and Amazon-branded cameras and smart home accessories into a unified platform with a single service subscription?

    • AFTVnews says:

It doesn’t work with Blink right now, but I’d expect they’ll add support soon enough.
