A Reddit user by the name of darkcellmp has discovered that if you ask Alexa to order an add-on item from Amazon, an order will be placed for that single item, even though the order total doesn’t meet the $25 minimum that is usually required when purchasing add-on items. If you’re a Prime member, you won’t be charged for shipping either, since all add-on items are technically eligible for free Prime shipping. So the next time you find yourself needing an add-on item, but don’t want to buy anything else, place the order through Alexa.
Isn’t there an Alexa app for Android or PC? Can that be used?
According to Amazon
“The Alexa app is available on mobile devices with:
Fire OS 2.0 or higher
Android 4.4 or higher
iOS 8.0 or higher”

the Alexa feature is an OS component of Amazon hardware. [and select third party hardware.]
the installable Alexa app mentioned is a configuration and settings manager only, not the voice assistant itself.
I’m curious if it’ll respect maximum quantity restrictions. I’m not familiar with Amazon ‘add-ons’ item types, but the one item i can think of is limited one.
multiple orders likely able to workaround that.
I’m curious if the reprogrammable dash button is similarly afflicted.
Thanks for the info, Elias! I ordered a $2.47 add-on item last night through my Echo Dot and it worked like a charm.
Tried ordering an item today, and Alexa said she can’t order it but added it to my shopping list instead (not cart, but list). I think this benefit is gone now.
I think you are correct!
No, it still works. Sometimes, Alexa will add stuff to your list if you were not clear enough, it isn’t sold by Amazon itself (which the add-on item must be), or out of stock. But it’s October 2017, and I just ordered an add on solo just fine!
