Amazon has started to roll out Alexa’s new “Brief Mode” feature to devices in the UK, Germany, and possibly other countries around the world. The feature, when enabled, causes Alexa to respond with a confirmation chime for simple requests, such as turning on lights, instead of responding with its usual “Okay” reply. The feature first arrived in the US back in March of this year. It has taken a while, but it is now also available in other countries. To turn the feature on or off, find it under the “Alexa Voice Responses” option in the Alexa app’s settings menu.
Can confirm live in UK on at least one of my dots.
Not sure where else to pose this question, but does anyone know why asking “Alexa, What’s up?” no longer works how it used to?
Before posing that question to Alexa would cause this response: “It’s 8:15 am, here’s what’s up, the temperature is 85 degrees, [insert some daily news item here]”
Now she just replies with the “daily news item”, forgoing the time and weather and it was my daily question for her in the morning… it made getting the current time and the current/daily weather forecast as well as a neat little news item as simple as asking one question.
Now I need to ask 3 different questions. “Alexa, what time is it?” wait for answer… “Alexa, how is the weather today?” wait for answer… then if I still want the daily tidbit… which I usually don’t after already asking and waiting twice already… “Alexa, what’s up?”
“What’s up” still works for me the same way including time and weather. Have you checked your location settings?
My location settings haven’t changed. If I ask what the weather is or what time it is separately, Alexa responds correctly. Just asking “What’s up” has changed for me. She only responds with “here are some trending news items!” for me. Very frustrating.
And France too, even though Amazon doesn’t seem to care much about us froggies. No household, no Echo Show…
