Amazon has announced that Alexa Voice Service (AVS) is now available for devices in the UK and Germany. AVS is what allows any manufacturer to build Alexa into their device. This is distinctly different from the Alexa Skills Kit (ASK), which is what allows Alexa to talk to other devices and services. The US already has devices, like the Triby, that have Alexa built-in, with more devices, like a GE lamp, on their way. Now customers in the UK and Germany should start seeing devices hit the market with Alexa capabilities built-in. This news should mean that Alexa will finally make her debut on UK and German Fire TVs soon.

Personal opinion, but given Amazon don’t even believe in Alexa enough to release it on their own devices in the uk I won’t hold my breath…. fire tv

The UK is neglected in this as always. We still don’t have alexa working on FTV which is pathetic.
yet in the USA ‘Alexa-enabled support for Amazon Video means that people will be able to advance, rewind or pause streamed content just though using their voice. For example, you can tell Alexa to fast forward’ Does this work now in USA ?
On echo the voice recognition is flaky to put it mildly. Amazon claim it will accept and recognise commands when music is on. It won’t and only works if you turn off the TV/stereo first.
Alexa on echo also randomly decides when it will actually do something. ‘Alexa light on’ response ‘ok’ but it randomly doesn’t do it.
