The Alexa Voice Remote for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick has just come back in stock after being out of stock for about a month. If you’ve been needing to buy a new remote, it’s probably a better idea to spend just $10 more and buy a Fire TV Stick 2, which includes this exact remote, than to buy the remote alone. However, if you prefer to just buy the remote, here’s your chance. This remote has been out of stock and backordered for nearly this entire year, so it’ll be interesting if it remains in stock this time for more than a day.
For the last several months, whenever the Alexa Voice Remote comes back into stock, it usually sells out in less than a day and then stays out of stock for at least a month. I keep track of it mostly because I believe it’s a telling indicator of when the supply of Fire TVs and Fire TV Sticks in the US will stabilize.
The Fire TV 2 is currently listed as coming back into stock on May 12, while the Fire TV Stick 2 will be back in stock on May 19. You can read up on why I think both devices have been backordered for so long, but I think the supply of voice remotes, or lack there of, is playing a big role in Fire TV and Fire TV Stick supply. Once the voice remote can stay in stock for more than a couple days at a time, I expect the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick to do the same.
Update
When I started writing this article, the remote said it was in stock. Now that I’ve finished the article, the remote says “may take an extra 1-2 days to ship,” so I don’t have high hopes for it staying in stock for more than a day.
It’s now saying shipping in 1 to 2 months….
