Alexa coming to existing Fire, Fire HD 8, and Fire HD 10 tablets

With the announcement of an all-new Fire HD 8 tablet, Amazon has revealed that Alexa will be making its way to existing Fire 7″ tablets, last year’s Fire HD 8 tablet, and existing Fire HD 10 tablets. The new feature will come in the form of a software update some time in the coming months. Amazon has not announced a specific date for the update.

It appears Alexa on tablets will function much in the same way as on the Fire TV. Pressing and holding the tablet’s home button will trigger Alexa to listen to your command. You can ask all the usual things Amazon Echo and Fire TV owners can ask Alexa, including asking Alexa to launch specific apps or control smart home devices. Alexa on tablets will also display information cards, just like it does on the Fire TV, when appropriate. Asking for the weather, for example, will have Alexa resonpond with the current weather conditions, as you’d expect, but will also display a weather pop-up card on the tablet’s screen with more information for the week’s weather.

I hope that by the 14th the UK specs will change, but no mention of Alexa in the Amazon UK blurb nor on Amazon De for any of the new tablets. That’s either keeping it under their hat till the announcement or that its a lies lies lies.

I hope the former not the latter.

I wonder if this will also be added to the Fire HDX? I’m still using the one I bought a couple of years ago, and have no plans to buy one of the newer Fire tablets.

I have a relatively new Amazon Fire hd 8. When is this up date coming? It is now the end of Oct 2016.
    TIA
