Look at the FCC number on the device.
1st-gen Stick is 2ABDU-0509 and 2nd-gen Stick is 2AE6S-0948.

Any word on if direct tv now will work for someone who has direct tv. Like the direct tv regular app does. Or if TWC app is coming at some point?
DirecTV Now, the streaming service, and DirecTV, the satellite TV service, are completely different things. If you have a satellite subscription, that will not grant you free access to DirecTV Now.
I don’t know anything about a possible TWC app.
