According to what you mentioned about blocking updates on dns. I blocked updates for the top 4 sites you mentioned and my FTV 1st gen device still updated to the latest firmware. At the time I was on 5.0.5 and was waiting for the rbox release of the roms. Now I’m asking this; is anyone working on a FTV 1st gen rooting method for version 5.2.1.0?
Sorry to hear that. I’ll test to see if anything has changed as far as update domains. We usually don’t hear about people working on a rooting method. It just appears randomly when new exploits are discovered.
I blocked the 4 address’s on my netgear router and my fire tv 2 still updated -_- i only had it 2 days so i sent it back and got another and routed it and blocked it that way :D so far so good.
Most likely your router is incapable of blocking HTTPS requests, which is what the Fire TV uses to download updates. You’ll need to block using method 4 in my guide which uses OpenDNS.
