Amazon’s original series The Tick debuts on Prime Video today. This is Amazon’s first superhero series, although it’s very different from the Marvel and DC movies and TV shows that have gained extreme popularity lately. The Tick is more of a comedy and parody than an action packed drama, like the average comic book series. The first 6 episodes are available for Prime members to stream now, with an addition 6 episodes coming next year.
Other Amazon original content news includes the announcement of a fifth season of the award-winning series Transparent for 2018. The fourth season will premier next month on September 22nd. The BBC series Fleabag, which Amazon acquired for the US and therefore touts as an original series, has announced its second season slated for release in 2019.
As for all new original Amazon content, Orlando Bloom has signed on to star in the lead role in an upcoming Amazon drama series called Carnival Row. The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has signed on with Amazon to produce a new unannounced series for Prime Video once his deal with AMC expires. A new series based on the cult sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest is back in the works at Amazon after running into casting issues following Alan Rickman’s death just before production was set to begin.
