The CW brings a ton of free content to the Amazon Fire TV with their new CW Seed app

The CW has just released a new CW Seed app for the Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition television. This is where you’ll be able to watch original content from The CW made specifically for digital platforms. You’ll also find shows that have been canceled and shows in syndication in the app. The best part is that everything is in the app is 100% free with no need to subscribe or activate the app with a service provider, but be prepared to watch a lot of ads.

At the top of the home screen of the app you’ll find a collection of featured content across the entire app. Scrolling down are featured shows from each of the three main categories in the app. Those categories are CW Seed originals, Fan Favorites, which are older shows that have ended, and DC Spotlight, which are shows made from DC comics.

While the shows available in the app could be considered “B” content, since you won’t find most of them airing on The CW network or available in the main CW app, there’s still quite a bit of great content. It’s also quite refreshing to have every episode ever made of most shows available at your finger tips for free.

Since you’re not paying for the content with your wallet, you’ll be paying with your time. Expect to see lots of ads before and during nearly all content. A one-hour episode of a show I watched had a 30-second pre-roll and 4 add breaks during the episode that each lasted about 2 minutes. The ads aren’t excessive compared to traditional broadcast television, but they’ll definitely seem like too much if you’re used to watching through subscription services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Thank you CW! I’ve wanted CW Seed on my Fire TV ever since I know they had almost every episode of Whose Line, even the ones before the CW Reboot.

Now if only Conan would release his TeamCoco for Fire TV.
