New Apps for the Week of December 3rd thru the 9th

This week there were 34 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The Escapists is an already popular game that is worth checking out now that it is available on the Fire TV. Vostok Inc. is another interesting new game that is said to take up a lot of your time. Fox Business has released an app this week with a live stream for those who can activate it with a TV subscription and it has some free content for those who can’t activate the app. If you haven’t heard about my new Bookmarker apps that I released this week, you can read about them here, but essentially they let you launch directly into a webstie in the Silk Browser right from the Fire TV home screen. New Apps for the Week of November 26th thru Dec 2nd

This week there were 35 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The most significant by far is the new Silk Browser app by Amazon. It brings Amazon’s full web browser to the Fire TV. Alpha Guns looks to be a great new game for the Fire TV. It has over 1 million downloads in the Google Play Store. As for entertainment apps, two major networks have arrived this week with new apps. IFC, which is owned by AMC, has brought their library of streaming content this week and so has Watch OWN, which is Oprah Winfrey’s network. New Apps for the Week of November 19th thru the 25th

This week there were 21 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Secret Chronicles is a new platformer game worth checking out. It’s based on Secret Maryo Chronicles, a popular open source PC platformer game. Beasts of Balance is an interesting game that combines a digital app with a physical tabletop game. Hauppauge has introduced a new option for those of you looking to watch live OTA content on your Fire TV device. Hauppauge myTV is their new app to be used with their new networked TV tuner. Rounding up the interesting apps this week are DS photo, for viewing photos stored on a Synology NAS, Device Background Process List for TV, which lets you see which processes are running on your device, and Internet Speed Test to quickly test your network speed. WE TV has released a streaming app, but it does require activating with a cable provider to unlock all content. Tablo has released a preview app for their upcoming interface refresh. New Apps for the Week of November 5th thru the 11th

This week there were 40 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Reuters TV has released an app with free live streaming news coverage from around the world. Hoopla is a streaming service that lets you access all of its content for free through partnerships with local public libraries. Amazon has put their Fire TV Music app in the appstore so that Fire TV Stick Basic Edition owners can access it, since that device does not use the standard Fire TV interface. If you own a Synology NAS, like I do, you’ll be happy to see that a DiskStation Video app has been added to view videos on your NAS through the Fire TV. This week there were 111 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Most of them are not worth your time and probably shouldn’t have even been approved into the Amazon appstore. These junk apps are just YouTube channels converted into apps that were probably auto-generated. A surge of YouTube-based apps on the Fire TV has happened before and now it looks like it’s happening again. Burried among the flood of junk apps is a new game Runic Rampage that looks decent. New Apps for the Week of October 22nd thru the 28th

This week there were 71 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Most of them are just seem like app versions of YouTube channels, so are not worth your time, but there are a few notworthy apps in the clutter. If you’re looking for a new game to try, take a look at Stranger Things: The Game. It’s a free action adventure game similar to RPGs from the 90s. BBC America has release a new app this week that provides access to most of their hottest shows. You will need to have a cable subscription to watch most of the content. Those of you looking for horror movies to get in the Halloween spirit can check out Screambox. The service is $4.99 a month or $36 a year. This week there were 30 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Jackbox Games has released Jackbox Party Pack 4, which is their latest collection of party games for 2-8 players. IndieFlix is a new streaming service focused on indipendent films. Their catalogue consists of over 4,000 films and costs $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year with a 7-day free trial. Tubi has released an all new app this week. New Apps for the Week of October 8th thru the 14th

This week there were 26 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Two popular games on mobile platforms have made their way to the Fire TV. LEGO DC Mighty Micros is a racing game with over 10 million downloads on mobile devices, and Jungle Adventures 2 is a side-scrolling platformer game with over 5 million downloads on mobile devices. Both are free to play and worth checking out if you’re looking for a new game to try. By far the biggest app released this week is Movies Anywhere. You can read my article about it, but it essentially lets you link up your Google Play, Apple iTunes, and VUDU account with your Amazon account so most movies you purchase from any platform are available on the Fire TV. Lastly, to get your home ready for Halloween, check out the app They’re Here, which turns your TV into a haunted static display with creepy hands.
