New Amazon Fire TV app can place the Time and/or Network Activity in the upper screen corners

A new handy app called Time and Net Speed Overlay has just been released for all Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition televisions. The app allows you to the current time to the top right corner of your Fire TV screen and it also allows you to add the current network activity speed in the upper left corner. You can select which of the two capabilities you’d like to be visible or you can have both visible. The network activity is a numeric value of the live network speed being used by the Fire TV. It’s the same information you can find in the hidden developer menu on the Fire TV, but it’s displayed in a much more discrete way. Read more ›

New Apps for the Week of December 3rd thru the 9th

This week there were 34 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The Escapists is an already popular game that is worth checking out now that it is available on the Fire TV. Vostok Inc. is another interesting new game that is said to take up a lot of your time. Fox Business has released an app this week with a live stream for those who can activate it with a TV subscription and it has some free content for those who can’t activate the app. If you haven’t heard about my new Bookmarker apps that I released this week, you can read about them here, but essentially they let you launch directly into a webstie in the Silk Browser right from the Fire TV home screen. Vostok Inc. is a new space shooter clicker game for the Amazon Fire TV


Vostok Inc. is an interesting new multi-layer game that has just arrived on all Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition television devices. As the newly appointed CEO of Vostok Inc, your goal is to become filthy rich. You do so by rasing money by blasting enemies and asteroids in your space ship and then use those funds to mine, terraform, and colonise planets. At its core it is a “clicker” game but adds a layer of twin-stick space shooting to the mix. The game requires a game controller to play but runs on all Fire TV devices.

FOX Business Network app comes to the Amazon Fire TV

FOX has released their FOX Business app for all Amazon Fire TVs, Fire TV Sticks, and Fire TV Edition televisions. The app has a live 24/7 stream of the FOX Business network as well as on-demand episodes of the stations various shows. You will need to activate the app with a television subscription provider in order to unlock all the content, however, there is some free content that does not require activation. The app description also says that it will provide “free live streaming coverage of major news events,” so this might be a good resource for live news even if you don’t have a subscription with a TV provider.

The Escapist sandbox prison escape game arrives on Amazon Fire TV devices

The Escapists is a popular game that has just been made available on the Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition televisions. It’s a sandbox game where you need to figure out how to escape from prison. It has a 4.4 star rating from over 100 reviewers on Amazon from when it was only available on Fire tablets. On Google Play, the game has been downloaded over 100,000 times. With multiple prisons, over 180 items, and multiple escape routes to figure out, the game should keep you interested for a while. It’s compatible with either a game controller or the Fire TV remote control. It’s available for the Fire TV 2 and 3, the Fire TV Stick 2, and Fire TV Edition televisions.

Introducing my new Bookmarker app(s) for the Amazon Fire TV — Load websites in just one click from the home screen

I have just released a series of new Bookmarker apps for the Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition televisions. They are simple apps that let you load a website in the Silk Browser with just a single click from the Fire TV home screen. New Apps for the Week of November 26th thru Dec 2nd

This week there were 35 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The most significant by far is the new Silk Browser app by Amazon. It brings Amazon’s full web browser to the Fire TV. Alpha Guns looks to be a great new game for the Fire TV. It has over 1 million downloads in the Google Play Store. As for entertainment apps, two major networks have arrived this week with new apps. IFC, which is owned by AMC, has brought their library of streaming content this week and so has Watch OWN, which is Oprah Winfrey’s network. Amazon releases their Silk Web Browser for the Amazon Fire TV

Amazon has just released their Silk Web Browser for the Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition television. They have been working on a browser for their streaming set-top box since at least March when it was discovered that installing the Silk browser from their Fire tablets would display a Fire TV specific tutorial. The browser leaked in beta form a few months later when it briefly appeared in the Amazon Appstore for a few hours, but now it seems like the app is ready for the general public. Read more ›

New Apps for the Week of November 19th thru the 25th

This week there were 21 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Secret Chronicles is a new platformer game worth checking out. It’s based on Secret Maryo Chronicles, a popular open source PC platformer game. Beasts of Balance is an interesting game that combines a digital app with a physical tabletop game. Hauppauge has introduced a new option for those of you looking to watch live OTA content on your Fire TV device. Hauppauge myTV is their new app to be used with their new networked TV tuner. Rounding up the interesting apps this week are DS photo, for viewing photos stored on a Synology NAS, Device Background Process List for TV, which lets you see which processes are running on your device, and Internet Speed Test to quickly test your network speed.
