This week there were 18 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Acrom is a new side scrolling platformer game with 30 levels to try and pass. Brown Sugar is a new subscription streaming service which claims to have the largest collection of black entertainment. It offers a 7-day free trial and costs $3.99 per month after that. Dash Radio is an online streaming radio app with over 60 original live stations that are all commercial free. New Apps for the Week of June 25th thru July 1st

This week there were 24 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Hot Wheels: Race Off is a high quality fun racing game that’s free to play. If you prefer slower paced puzzle games, then check out Eventide: Slavic Fable, which is the latest game by Artifex Mundi. Those of you who want a party games to play with friends, but don’t want to shell out the high price for the Jackbox packs, should check out The Crowded Party Game Collection. It’s a pack of 5 games that can be played locally with up to 10 people. Players use their phones as remotes, so you don’t need to have multiple Fire TV remotes or controllers. As for entertainment video apps, this week saw the arrival of Boomerang, a streaming service that offers over 1,000 classic cartoons. It costs $4.99 per month and offers a 7 day free trial. Boomerang has just released their app for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. This is a streaming service that offers over 1,000 episodes of classic cartoons like Scooby-Doo, Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Smurfs, Popeye, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Wacky Races, Droopy, Huckleberry Hound, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Yogi Bear. They also have original content and exclusives added every week to keep the content fresh. The streaming service is $4.99 per month and offers a 7-day free trial.

Channels app arrives on the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick for HDHomeRun viewing — UPDATE: Experimental app mistakenly made public

The Channels app by Fancy Bits has just been released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. This app allows you to view live TV through an HDHomeRun tuner. It features a program guide as well as a nice content view with cover art for shows and movies. The Channels app is known as the best way to watch HDHomeRun content on the Apple TV. The developer has recently released DVR software that runs on a PC or NAS to record content and make it available through the Channels app. The DVR service will cost $8 per month, but the Channels app is free for Fire TV devices. That’s particularly unusual considering the Apple TV version of the app costs a staggering $24.99.

New Apps for the Week of June 18th thru the 24th

This week there were 20 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Snake Bite Fire is a new game that lets you play the classic mobile phone game on your big screen. Shudder is a streaming service for horror movie fans that has been available as an Amazon Channel for a while and has now released a dedicated app. Most of the app’s content requires a subscription, which costs $4.99 per month or $3.99 a month if you pay annually, but there is some free content to enjoy in the new app. Sundance Now is another new streaming service app to arrive on the Fire TV this week. It’s subscription runs $6.99 a month, or $59.99 if paid annually, and it offers independent film, TV shows, documentaries, and original series. This week there were 19 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Farming Simulator 18, the newest release in that popular series, has been released this week. If slowly driving farm equipment doesn’t sound exciting enough, take a look at Fast Traffic Race, which is a free 3D racing game with 20+ cars to try. Another notable game is Project Frox: 12 Stages of Suffering, which is a binary-brain style game where you need to control two seperate frogs simultaniously as you run through an enviorment of traps and preditors. Downloader v1.1.3 is now live with fullscreen browsing, zoom in the browser, and game controller support

Version 1.1.3 of my Downloader app for the Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and upcoming Fire TV Edition televisions has just gone live in the Amazon appstore. The main new features are a fullscreen mode for the built-in web browser, zooming capabilities in the browser, and full support for the Fire TV Game Controller.

Farming Simulator 18 arrives on the Amazon Fire TV

The Farming Simulator series of games doesn’t appeal to everyone, but those who enjoy the games seems to really love them. Farming Simulator 18, the latest release from this popular series, has just arrived on the Amazon Fire TV 1 and 2. The game touts new 3D graphics that show more details of the realistic tractors and trucks available to operate in the game. There is local multiplayer available to put your friends and family to work on your virtual farm, harvesting crops, breeding pigs, feeding cows, and more. As with previous versions of the game, you will need a game controller to play and it’s not available on any Fire TV Sticks.

This week there were 31 new apps and games released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. I’ve decided to stop listing spammy apps below, starting with PuzzlePups games, but the total number of new apps I report each week will continue to include the spammy apps.

AMC has released a streaming video app this week. See my review here. Rhapsody has released a Napster Exclusives with music interviews and videos. Nitro Circus, which is an action sports entertainment group, has released a new app. If that sounds to extreme for you, you might be more interested in Prescription for Serenity, a relaxation app with original music nd sound therapy. Those of you who own Apple Mac computers might want to try Mirror Receiver, which says it can mirror your Mac’s screen to your Fire TV device. AMC releases app for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick


AMC has just released an app for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The app provides on demand access to a small selection of in-season full episodes if you activate the app with a subscription TV provider. If you don’t activate the app, you’re limited to only watch “extras,” which are short episode clips, sneak peeks, and behind the scenes videos. The app description says “many” season premiere episodes will be available to watch without needing to activate the app. There is no option for a live stream of what’s currently airing on the cable network. Discovery brings Life, Velocity, Destination America, and AHC apps to the Fire TV

Discovery Channel has released four more apps for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The network already released apps for their 5 most popular channels a couple of months ago, and now they’ve padded the collection with new apps for Discovery Life, Velocity, American Heroes Channel (AHC), and Destination America. As you’d expect, these new apps carry the same layout and structure as the previous Discovery apps. That means you’ll have to activate the apps with a TV subscription provider to view all of the available content, however, there is a small collection of completely free content available without a subscription, including full episodes of select shows. If you do activate the app, you’ll have access to a live stream in addition to the on demand content.

Amazon Shopping app for the Fire TV is back in the appstore

About a month ago, Amazon’s shopping app for the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick leaked on their website. The listing was removed within a few hours, but those who added the app to their account have been able to use it ahead of its official release. The shopping app has now reappeared in the appstore, it is either being mistakenly listed again, or Amazon is ready for everyone to use it. Read more ›

New Amazon Fire TV app launches Kodi automatically on boot


A new app for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick has been released called OnBootKodi. As the name suggests, the app does just one thing, which is to automatically launch Kodi as soon as the Fire TV finishes booting. The app can also be configured to launch Kodi once a certain amount of time has passed after the device boots, however I was unable to get that feature to work. Read more ›

Dish Network brings their Dish Anywhere app to Amazon Fire TV devices

Dish Network has just released a version of their Dish Anywhere app on the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. This app allows those subscribed to Dish’s traditional satellite TV service to stream all of the same content through the Fire TV. The app doesn’t offer any content at all for non-Dish customers, but for those who do subscribe, you can access all of your live, on demand, and DVRed content. Read more ›

New Apps for the Week of May 14th thru the 20th

If you’re a DISH Network subscriber, you’ll be very happy to hear that the DISH Anywhere app has officially arrived on Fire TV devices. It allows you to watch live, on demand, and DVR content from the TV provider. Baseball fans will want to check out the new MLB at Bat app that just arrived. It replaces the old MLB.TV app released 2 years ago. Those of you without a cable subscription will want to check out the new THIRTEEN explore from PBS if you’re looking for something new and free to watch. German residents will definitely want to check out the 7 new apps from ProSiebenSat.1 Digital. MLB at Bat app arrives on the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick

Major League Baseball has just brought their MLB.com at Bat app to the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The app allows baseball fans to watch the game of the day and out-of-market games if they’re subscribed to MLB.TV’s premium service. You’ll also find on-demand highlight clips, scoreboards, schedule calendars, and much more.
