Spike Lee’s ‘Chi-Raq’ is officially Amazon’s first original movie

At the start of this year, Amazon announced it would start making original movies for theatrical release. Then a couple months ago, rumors started floating around that Amazon signed on Spike Lee to be the mastermind behind their first movie. Today we now have confirmation that Spike Lee is in fact making his upcoming movie Chi-Raq as Amazon Studio’s first major motion picture. The movie, whose title is a mashup of “Chicago” and “Iraq”, is set in Chicago and revolves around the city’s gun violence. When Amazon announced their new plans to make movies, they said Prime members can expect to stream their original movies, for free, within 4 to 8 weeks of their theatrical release. If they hold true on that timeframe, it will be one of the fastest cinema-to-stream transitions for a major motion picture to date.

I have to say I like Netflix’s original content much more than Amazons. So far the only thing I’ve liked from Amazon is Bosch.

Agreed. I am disappointed in prime but it came free with Fire phone which I bought for $159. Been running CM 11 on it VERY smoothly and have to say it might be the best smart phone deal in history! But so far I’ve had no need for prime.
