Right now is probably your last chance to buy a rootable Fire TV on sale from Amazon

The Amazon Fire TV has been on sale for $84.99 all week, which means the sale will likely end this weekend. Since the latest software version of the 2nd-gen Fire TV is currently rootable, with a safer rooting procedure coming soon, this is probably the last time you’ll be able to buy a rootable Fire TV from Amazon at a discounted price. About 2 months after the 1st-gen Fire TV was rooted, Amazon released a software update which blocked rooting. It’s been almost 2 months since the 2nd-gen Fire TV was rooted, so it’s likely that a new software update will arrive soon that blocks rooting once again. Then it’s only a matter of time until Amazon no longer ships rootable devices. It’s unlikely the Fire TV will go on sale again between now and when Amazon blocks rooting, so the next couple days may be the last time you can buy a rootable Fire TV on sale.

Rootable boxes for gen 1 were still available to purchase off the shelf (and from amazon) for at least a few months after they blocked root. BUT amazon did make it a pretty tricky and tedious process to get it rooted… Thanks to aftvnews and Elias’s well detailed guidance I was able to achieve root.
Im so tempted especially now that root is possible. Im just not blown away by the hardware upgrades from gen 1 to 2. I keep thinking NVIDIA Shield might be the better, albeit more expensive option. Id like my next purchase to be my main media device for at least 2 years.

Loving your website. Keep the info coming. I’m super fan of Amazon and all their products they continue to put out.
