Refurbished Fire TV 1 and Amazon Tap on sale on Woot

Woot currently has the refurbished 1st-gen Fire TV and the refurbished Amazon Tap on sale. The refurbished Fire TV 1 is $52.99, which is $3 more than the lowest price I’ve ever seen for it. If you’re looking for something a bit more powerful than the Fire TV Stick but don’t want to spend the money for the Fire TV 2, the Fire TV 1 is still a very capable device. Plus, it’s the only model that has an optical audio port, which many can’t live without. The refurbished Amazon Tap is $79.99, which is not that enticing of a price, considering the brand new Tap was on sale for just $10 more just a few days ago.

Hello, I have a fire tv 1 with a voice remote. When I first got it I followed your guide to disable updates, root and install kodi onto it. It is working fine, but I just got a couple echo dots and am enjoying the whole alexa thing. Does the fire tv 1 support alexa if upgraded to a newer firmware? And will I still be able to run kodi on it if I do that?

If your “rooted” then you can install rbox’s latest custom rom for the FTV1. Kodi works on ALL versions of FireOS. Here’s Elias’s guide’s to upgrading your FTV. Follow steps 9, 10, and 11 under “For Fire TV 1 on software version 51.1.4.0 or older” section. You should take note of your current FireOS software version your on. Check in “Settings–>About” on your FireTV. IF YOUR VERSION IS 51.1.4.0 OR OLDER THEN MAKE SURE YOUR BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED! Following all 11 steps instead of just those last 3 will guarantee our bootloader is unlocked and have you on the latest FireOS with Alexa with unlocked bootloader and root retained. There’s a simple command that you can type in and it will tell you if the bootloader is unlocked. I can’t remember it though. It should also be noted that “root” is NOT required to use Kodi. But having full access to your device is never a bad idea. Especially since yours would be outta warranty anyway. Hope I helped.
