Pre-Rooted 5.0.5 ROM for Fire TV 2 Released

A pre-rooted ROM for software version 5.0.5 for the Fire TV 2 has just been released by rbox. You can download it from here. This ROM also includes version 3.0.0-3 of TWRP recovery, so installing it will also update recovery to the latest version. If you’ve already rooted your Fire TV 2 using my guide, then all you need to do is install the ROM using TWRP. Instructions for that can be found here. If you haven’t rooted your Fire TV and want to install this ROM, simply follow my rooting guide and use the 5.0.5 ROM. There is no need to install older versions first. You can jump directly to 5.0.5 regardless of which software version is currently on your Fire TV 2.

Those of you with rooted 1st-gen Fire TVs should not use this ROM. It is only for the 2nd-gen Fire TV. Rbox still plans to release TWRP and a pre-rooted 5.0.5 ROM for the 1st-gen Fire TV.

If rooted on 5.0.4 but using the original method (No TWRP etc) whats the best procedure for getting to a rooted 5.0.5?

  6. taveras says:

LuckyPatcher not working on 5.0.5 can’t block ads on showbox, mobdro, ect.

Interested in testing this, although nowadays I haven’t got much reason to root apart from getting the Sky Go app to work (it blocks HDM outputI, but I think it also detects root so not sure it will work anyway)

Is it easy to revert back to stock if I change my mind? How would I do that?

  8. nozebleed says:

wow this was so painless! awesome!

I have installed 5.0.5_r1 on my FTV2. Now that rbox has released newer updated version r4, can I just flash it on top of what i currently have. And i don’t understand all the tech jargon, but am i loosing any ftv capabilities by not flashing to the r4 version or is it just under the hood stuff. If not needed i would just like to wait for the next update.
    Thanks !

Will there be a pre-rooted version of this for FTV1?
