  1. Roy says:

Not really a question. Just wanted to say thanks for posting those movie deals. I was able to purchase two of my favorites for 10 bucks and get a free one for the kids. Keep up the good work.

  2. damien says:

sorry about last week I was excited.

Can a external drive be connected to the fire stick?
I thought you had mentioned it but I cannot find it.
thank you your podcast is my favorite.

  3. David says:

I think i remember reading that you have a Netgear router and was wondering if you able to block updates via your router. I’ve tried 2 different routers and the filter only blocks HTTP and not HTTPS. When browsing your guide there is a link to test if your able to download a xxx.bin file and i can unless i block the HTTPS service but when i do my AFTV timesout loading home.

I’ve read others are using the DNSMasq feature available in
DDWRT or Tomato firmwares or enterprise routers. I can install
DDWRT on my Neatgear R7000 but prefer to use Netgear.

    Thank You

  4. Robert Simandl says:

Are the 1st generation Fire TV box and Stick going to get updates anymore? My 2nd-gen Fire TV is fully updated to, but my older Stick and 1st-gen box are still waaaay back at 5.0.5 (without even the .1 at the end). Isn’t that like, TWO updates ago? Thanks!

  5. David says:

I remember reading that one of the benefits of rooting was the ability to boot directly into any app. I don’t see this as an option in TWRP so how do you modify the bootloader to change it to your app of choice to boot into on a AFTV 2 ?

    Thank You

  6. Adam says:

    Hi Elias,

I’ve really been enjoying the 4k capable YouTube that came with the latest update.

SPMC can do 4k too, but I vaguely remember you saying something about why it was unlikely to ever happen.

What would it take for Kodi/SPMC to run 4k on the Fire?

  7. DeanR1977 says:

Is there a way to use more than one USB device (USB card/) at a time with a 4 way port plugged in a AFTV2 because I tried before but it would only see one storage device & not two?

Anyway to use a different bootscreen? I mean the Animated Amazon boot animation? I would like to be able to use a custom or a created boot of my own liking?

Thanks again AFTVNews & all the hardworking Dev’s in the XDA AFTV Forums too

  8. John lynn says:

I’ve tryed copying my kodi app file system with build from 1 micro as card to another since I have more then 1 firetv, but it won’t launch when insert the copied sd card from the original, is this possible and what am I doing wrong with the file system?

  9. Ian King says:

It appears that Starz Play and Encore Play are supported by Comcast once again? What about TCM?

  10. Daniel says:

When did you start to update the rom area?

I dont find any informations about firetv Stick Software. E.g.”with this version, the FW got a new recovery.”

rbox is working on the stick recovery and the time will come, when we need such Informations.

Thx a lot for your work.

    Greetings by,

  11. Tony says:

I have rooted Fire TV with Pre-rooted ROM. I am using stickmount and also tried your new guide, Paragon. I can read my NTFS 8 GB usbdisk, play movies but can’t download files larger than free space on internal storage which has 3 GB. So basically I have limit for write on usbdisk.

  12. Paul says:

I want check out the network traffic on my fire tv or stick (I have both but only need to do this on one). I want to do a mitmproxy to look at all encrypted and plaintext information being sent through my network.

In order for me to decrypt the HTTPS traffic I need to have an SSL cert onto the device. Any idea how I can achieve this on fire tv/stick?

Thanks for the help! You guys are awesome!
    Paul E.

  13. Masterblaster says:

Has anyone experienced the USB drive not working on the newest update to 1st gen fireTV?

  14. Stank says:

What up, E! If I mount an NTFS drive using the guide, am I limited to 1 drive like on the stock OS? Also, how do you like Kingo on the stick? Any pros or cons that you’ve noticed? Glad to be able to catch you live this week. Have a groovy weekend.

  15. IanMoz says:

I’ve noticed an app on my fire tv 1st gen named:

Should this also be disabled to completely block updates or is this app used for something else?

  16. Lori says:

When you were talking about “Appstarter” I tried to find it on Amazon and it wouldn’t come up. Your link sent me to GitHub, is that where the app is now?

  17. IanMoz says:

Also if you have time, I’d like to know if the linux commands have changed for hw rooting the 1st gen fire tv with the newest update as I’ve tried it a few times now and I haven’t managed to get root access even though the su file could be seen in the xbin folder?
