    Hi

Could you tell me if there is anyway to queue a song using Amazon Prime Music on the Amazon Fire TV?

If there is not do you think this feature will be added in future?

    Thanks

HBOgo works terribly on the FireTV Stick. Is there a solution coming?

I’ll ask mine here since it is the same category of question. Hulu works terribly on the FireTV. I checked reviews of the app, and see that it’s not just me. It’s really painful since that is where we stream video from most frequently. The most common problem I have is inconsistently choppy audio, but also often have a video crash a few minutes in, or fail to start after an ad, and sometimes even hang up before the ad even comes on. There are tons of reviews of the Hulu app that confirm it behaves terribly on the FireTV, and works flawlessly on many other device types in the same households as the FireTV’s that it doesn’t work well on. I can say the same first hand, it works fine on the crappy app on my tv, which is wireless, but terribly on my wired ftv. Everything else works flawlessly.

Do you have any insight into this issue? I’m wondering if it is an Amazon issue or a Hulu issue, and what the best course of action for affected users may be. Thanks.

I love your site and check it a few times daily.

I just bought a new Fire 7 ($50 version), rooted it, installed the Play Store, etc. Do you know of any websites comparable to yours but for the Kindle tablets? Something that covers hacks, tutorials, Q&As, etc. Thanks!

Is it worth getting an extra fast microsd card for FTV2?

Will it be able to take advantage of a UHS Speed Class 3 card that’s rated at 80MB/s read?

    Thanks

    Hello Elias,

I would like to know if you have noticed any improvements or something new in the latest 5.0.3.1 update for FireTV2, and also in the latest 185 update for the WIFI Remote??

I ask, because I have noticed that some FireTV2 users have said they have noticed some little improvements with this new 5.0.3.1 update, but none has mentioned anything about the 185 update for the WIFI Remote…

I know Amazon has never given any detailed information every time they release a new update for the FireTV, and therefore never mentioned what has been corrected or what’s new…
So as you know and have some contacts on Amazon, I would like to advise them that they should at least give us some information about the corrections offered on each software update for the FireTV.

I would also like to know if you have obtained more detailed information on the operation of the front LED of the FireTV2, which it does not seem to work as in the FireTV 1st Gen??…

Thanks Elias, for always giving us such a fast and detailed information about our FireTV, and also for your selfless help!

I know your in the usa but ive noticed that since the latest update iplayer isnt streaming , it shows the contents but when any program is selected none work, im uk by the way lol

I have confirmed my Comcast router’s DHCPv6 partially stumps the FireTV. The Wifi adapter is unable to set a custom DNS when the DHCP server issues a IPV6 based DNS address.

Interestingly, the wired adapter IS able to set a custom DNS even though its talking to the same DHCPv6 router.

    Most probably a coding bug.

    Hi,

Great show and great information on the AFTV.

Poking round the menu on AFTV First Gen I noticed there was an update to the remote. Any idea what this update does? It worked fine before the update and seems fine now after updating.

    Thanks

    Mike

What is your favorite streaming tv box and why?

  10. FYI, I received the new ATV yesterday and will send it back tomorrow. Dolby Digital Plus does not work just like when the FTV 2nd generation came out. I spent a considerable amount of time with Apple support and they have no clue about what the problem is. He suggested that I connect it directly to the television rather than the receiver. Hard to do with a projection tv that has no audio.

  11. Anthony says:

Can you connect a pc to amazon fire tv via wifi direct , say if you have no internet connection but have files on pc you want to stream

  12. shwru980r says:

Is it possible to enable ALT+TAB functionality. It used to work when I first got my fire tv.

  13. Nick says:

My select button has stopped working in XBMC Gotham. I can’t get to Amazon TV screen because it autoloads into XBMC. I can navigate around XBMC but can’t select anything. I even tried my keyboard and it won’t let me select anything with that either. When I do a voice search Amazon find movies and allows me to select those on the Amazon side. I need to figure out a way to kill XBMC and restore back to a previous point but how do I get out of it?

    • Grinder says:

Uninstall XBMC and LLama. Install Firestarter and Kodi. Set the Home button to load Kodi. The double-click home button to load Firestarter. Don’t use ADB.

Here’s an example of a good remote keymap to use:

      FullScreen
      PlayPause

      ZoomIn
      ZoomOut
      Rotate

      ActivateWindow(10134)
      ActivateWindow(10111)
      ActivateWindow(10004)

      Info

      seek(21)
      seek(-7)
      ActivateWindow(10124)
      mute

      • Grinder says:

Can’t post xml. Sorry. You need to change that keymap to get Kodi running perfectly.

I am trying to install FIRESTARTER first since KODI can be installed within the app.

I am having problems installing FIRESTARTER APK file since i heard you can now install KODI within the app.

So first I turned on adb debugging and 3rd party apps under developers settings. And the fire OS is 5.0.3.1 the latest.

I then downloaded es file explorer but it didnt download the latest 4.0.2.3 instead it downloaded 4.0.2.2. So i then tried to update by scrolling all the way down and hit update and it never completes the download of 5.61mb instead the max it went was 99%!

Then i gave up after multiple tries and proceeded to download FIRESTARTER at https://github.com/sphinx02/FireStarter/releases
After selecting it (orange lines surrounding apk link) using the controllers circular selector and then hitting the center button the firestarter apk file does not download. All i see is the refresh button on the top right for a second and nothing happens!

I then un-installed and installed same thing happens. Please help!

  15. Adam says:

Hi Elias, thanks for the great site and information.

Now that the dust has settled a little, do we have any more information on just how this buggy launch was even able to happen? Was it a project leader issue? I saw your report about Netflix’s app team changing things up in a way that broke surround sound on the AFT2, and I can definitely see that happening, but even that would require someone to give the ok to release the product.

I mean, sure, they got the product out before Apple TV. But in the meantime Amazon had to endure weeks of their big 2015 product being excoriated in hundreds of reviews by their most loyal customers (people that pre-ordered) This wasn’t first day bugs, this was a inarguable botched product launch. How many sales went to Roku and Apple TV because of what potential buyers saw in the weeks after the launch? Amazon’s reputation is not that of an employer that is particularly indulgent of mistakes like this.

Contrast that with how effectively Amazon is bringing the FTV2 up to standard AFTER the launch, and one is left wondering why someone didn’t do this before the launch, and if that someone is now someone different.

  16. vulcan195 says:

Any insight into whether they will include Netflix in the Universal Search?

Except for Netflix, AFTV2 does pull up matches from service providers like StarZ, Encore, Hulu, HBO and Showtime.

  17. johnjohnchu says:

How do you get to the Kodi’s lower right corner home button using Fire TV’s remote control?

  18. Lodewijk (Lewis in english) says:

    Hello Elias,

    How is it going?
I am in Japan now for work and you will be streaming 06.30 am Saturday morning local time. Last days my jetlag woke me up at 06.00 AM everyday so I might be there (if my hotel wifi doesn’t let me down). Otherwise I will catch up later of course.

I couldn’t find the non edited episode in the last weeks show notes. Maybe this week it’s possible.

As you have mentioned before I fully agree with you that all the 3rd party add ons on Kodi shouldn’t be used. Nowadays you can get basically everything online for reasonable price(except for some live events). I use HBO now and Amazon with Smart DNS. I don’t feel this as pirate because I pay for the content. What is your opinion?

PS. Are you as exited as me about the upcoming new show the man in the high castle?

Thanks a bunch (as always)! Lodewijk

    • Eric says:

      Hey Ludwig (in german ;-)

just so you know – as an EU citizen you live under the rulings of the european supreme court in Luxemburg. It ruled already back in 2014, that streaming content never violates copyrights, as you are not making a copy for your own (IT geeks may dispute this, regarding buffering and so on – but the same applied to pre-internet age devices too, e. g. a rental VHS playing on an old fashioned TV, its video will always have been buffered somewhere, even if just for fractions of fractions of a second but measurable – this solely did never constitute making a copy and this did not change with the advent of the internet and multimedia streaming services).

This is valid as well for all the pirated stuff on, say, Youtube, as well as any other service. Lawyers and state attorneys don’t even go to the point of wondering, if DNS rerouting, cloaking your geoposition etc. is illegal or violating licences etc. in any way, because videostreamings themselves are not protected by standing copyright laws in the EU. So as long as you don’t rip a videostream to a drive, for the purpose of saving it, streaming (for you watching a stream! Providing ripped video material as a videostream to others is a whole different story for sure) simply does not fall under copyright laws within the EU and for this simple reason can’t be any sort of “piracy” on your part as the consumer. So the further question of geolocation manipulation “legal yes or no” can be left undiscussed.

This is the situation right now, it can change, if legislators decide so, so keep updated. But as an EU citizen – don’t worry.

  19. Eric says:

When will Amazon have all the issues with FTV2 fixed, just fixed, so it works as smoothly as FTV1, without anything left on the “to do”-schedule. The remote, the box, both is close to e-waste right now, due to its extreme software problems. Never had such a horrible user experience, full of bugs and crashes and etc. ever since Windows98 fresh after its release back then. I’d LOVE to have an answer to this. Since Amazon refuses to give it due to their fabricated “we make a secret out of anything so we seem more misterious and desirable” public relations strategy maybe your sources there are willing to provide informal information.

Right now, I’m just so angry at Amazon, I’m sorry if this made me write this post a bit less friendly than I mean it, I actually like your blog, keep on doing your good work for all the FTV users, even more since Amazon prides itself in consequent non-disclosure, no matter what (probably the worst flaw of Amazon, at all).

    • Anthony says:

Bit extreme in my opinion, close to e-waste, obviously amazon want a rock solid box as to them its sales but dont think its too far off perfect.

  20. vulcan195 says:

With recent news of Trojan / malware code hidden in otherwise legitimate and popular APK files – its important for people who use Kodi (I don’t for this reason) to know that APK files downloaded from sources other than Google and Amazon may be infected.

  21. Tim says:

    Hey Elias,

I noticed you have made note of the sale on the Logitech K400 keyboard/mouse combo on the site today. This keyboard has worked wonderfully for me so far, but my only complaint with it on my AFTV 2 is that it inexplicably does NOT work inside of the YouTube app. While the arrow keys and mouse function correctly, when I go to the search area for instance, I cannot type in any letters. I am able to type without issue in essentially every other app I have (side)loaded.

Do you have any idea why this might be the case?

(And no, USB debugging is not enabled; running the latest 5.0.3.1 release and latest YouTube app)

  22. vulcan195 says:

Is Amazon planning to allow Apps to use the Voice Search feature. A lot of apps offer a keyboard interface. It would be great if Amazon would allow Voice input in lieu of pecking with a remote. e.g for doing a Youtube search.
