Something’s brewing in the Fire TV’s gaming library. Within the last few hours, the number of games available for the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick jumped from around 875 to 1,144. I haven’t check every new game, but it appears they are all touch based games that require either a mouse or a game controller to move an on screen cursor.
Amazon introduced a beta program called Tablet Games on TV last year which lets developers submit their touch based games to the Fire TV. These games are controlled by moving an on screen cursor with the joystick on the Fire Game Controller. The question that begs to be asked is, why make all these games available now when the option has been available for so long? The cynics among you might say Amazon just wants to boost the Fire TV’s game catalogue ahead of tomorrow’s expected new Fire TV announcement. A more exciting explanation could be that the new Fire TV remote or controller include either a touchpad or motion controls to make playing tablet games on your TV a more pleasant experience. You can easily guess which explanation I’m rooting for.
