More evidence Amazon will soon launch the Fire TV in India

I currently have a theory that Amazon will be bringing the Fire TV to India for the first time when Amazon Prime Video launches there later this year. I just came across more evidence that backs up that theory. If you try loading, you’ll bring up a 404 error page, but unlike,, or any other international Amazon site that doesn’t sell the Fire TV, the Amazon India URL is set to redirect to another page. This means someone at Amazon has deliberately prepared Amazon India’s website for “/firetv” visits.

Currently, is set to redirect to, which is an improperly formated URL that is likely suppsoed to be Amazon commonly configures their websites with short URLs that redirect to appropriate product pages. For example, redirects to the Kindle product page at This leads me to believe that the Amazon India product page for the Fire TV will likely be

This isn’t the first time a premature Amazon redirect has hinted at an upcoming product. Back before the Fire TV 2 was released in the US, the URL was configured to redirect to a 404 product page, just like the Amazon India site is doing now with the “/firetv” URL. I speculated the 404 product page to be the unreleased WiFi-based Fire TV voice remote, which turned out to be correct.

The “B01EU2M62S” value in the target page for the redirect is likely the Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) (i.e., product ID) for the Fire TV in India. When I try to lookup that ASIN value using Amazon’s product API, it comes up as “not accessible.” This is distinctly different from an actual 404 product ASIN, which comes up as “not a valid value.” The “not accessible” classification usually indicates a product that is in Amazon’s product database which has not yet been revealed to the public.

Due to this new evidence, I’m more confident than ever that the Fire TV will be launched in India very soon. The introduction of a Fire TV in India means we’ll likely see an all new Fire TV 3 and/or new Fire TV Stick 2 released soon, since we’re nearing the end of the current generation’s product cycle.

That sounds about right. 3 months from now is October, which is when the Fire TV 2 was released. But remember, typically new Fire TV’s are announced and available for pre-order a month ahead of their release date.
