Do we still think a new FTV is coming out? Last I checked the pendant was back in stock.

I saw that too. Tough to say. I figured for sure the Fire TV 3 would stay out of stock for longer. I do still think some new Fire TV model will be announced between now and the end of October, but hard to say what it will be.

My money is on it being a 4K Fire TV Stick. Who knows though if it will replace the current Fire TV 3, or replace the 1080p Fire TV Stick, or just be a 4th model that gets added to the existing lineup.

I REALLY don’t think we’ll see a new “box” this year that is more powerful than the Fire TV 3/Cube. Whatever new model is released might have features that don’t exist on any other model, like Dolby Vision for example, but I highly doubt that it will be an overall superior device.

I saw Amlogic now has a 14nm version of the s905 SoC. So I bet they can fit the FTV3 internals into a stick form factor. The current stick is getting pretty long in the tooth. Not sure I would buy one, even at $25. But if they can shrink the FTV3 into a stick form factor, and keep the price low, that would be a nice device. And it could replace both the current stick and pendant, leaving Amazon with the tradition two device lineup.

One of my FTV3s is still unopened. I’ve been debating deploying it, or leaving it sealed and trying to hold out for an announcement. It is too late to return, but I can ebay it and get more money if it is sealed.

I think a 4K stick makes the most sense to me. I guess it would have to be somewhat cheaper than the FTV 3 unless that will be retired. Maybe a 49.99 4K stick would be a good seller for a lot of people.

WOW! FTV2 back in stock 10/2. Just when I was thinking my last FTV2 was getting really dated, they bring back in stock. I now have a Toshiba Fire TV Edition, so I won’t ever buy another, but for my 1080P TV it is still good.

Now the FTV2 is tempting. I’m sure it is more powerful/stable than the Cube.
