I’ve created a Patreon page for AFTVnews — Please take a moment to have a look

In its simplest definition, Patreon is a way for patrons (i.e., visitors/viewers/fans) to support a creator. I love running AFTVnews and hope to do it for a long time. That, among other reasons, is why I’ve created a Patreon page for AFTVnews. I’ve put a lot of thought into how Patreon can be used to improve AFTVnews for everyone and how its patron rewards can add additional value and content for those who want it. I explain it all in detail on the Patreon page and would greatly appreciate it if you would take a moment to have a look.

Im glad your doing this because I love the site.

I guess this is the beginning of the end. $$$$

    • Proline says:

I second that…..whole concept is corny to say the least.

    • AFTVnews says:

Why do you say that? Honestly, I’d love to know more. If you think I’m going to limit content in any way to patrons only, that is absolutely not the case and will never be the case. The insider feed is an early look at the work-in-progress stuff, but when that stuff is finished it will always be posted to AFTVnews and only on AFTVnews.

I fully expect the vast majority to ignore Patreon and just continue to enjoy the site. Just like the vast majority of the 1.5 million who use my Downloader app get to enjoy it 100% for free thanks to the few people who have contributed towards it’s development.

That’s the idea I’m experimenting with here. If some of you find value in the Patreon rewards or just want to help the site a little, it will make AFTVnews better for everyone. If the Patreon page is just ignored, which I expect to be a real possibility, everything will remain as is.

ByeAFTVNews/Proline – Quit whining. It’s not like the site is going paid membership only. If you don’t want to give any money, everything still continues on as usual.

Absolutely right Clocks! Elias is doing this for the good of the site, his patrons and his family.

Who was whining? Just saying that when you monetize things, it usually turns to shit, and typically very quickly. I’ve enjoyed the site, yes, but I refuse to pay monthly for this content. I’ve clicked through the affiliate links to buy items in the past, even unblocked the ads.. I just find Patreon to be a money grab in most cases, but this one feels even more so. I wouldn’t do this for musical artists I really like, so there’s no chance for this one. No offense meant to Elias, it’s just not that valuable to ME. But to clock, you can suck it. Your words are about as important as any other idiot online to me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even idiot brown nosers like you. Sure, I feel sorry that Elias feels the hit of the Amazon changes, but it’s his choice to make this his livelihood. In the end, I don’t use any of his apps and if this site went away tomorrow, I’d remove it from my RSS feed and I’d still somehow manage to get through my day. That’s not saying a don’t enjoy some of the articles, but I don’t find them more valuable than the ads pay for page views to be quite frank.

I’ve deleted the replies to this comment due to the name calling. Please keep the conversation civil. I will leave the above comment because, even though there is name calling, it adds value to the conversation.

To be clear, I have no objection with you, or anyone else, deciding that this site, or any of my work, does not merit direct monetary support. I fully expect the vast majority of my visitors to ignore the Patreon and to continue enjoying everything I do without contributing a penny. That’s why the Patreon goals and rewards are set up in a way that they will NEVER limit or reduce the content on this site.

My objection is with the accusation that the site is instantly worse off for me seeking additional support. There is nothing on the site that is being additionally monetized, as you state. I am in no way asking people to pay for the content they consume here. That will ALWAYS be free. I am just seeing if a tiny minority of visitors find enough value in my work to support it a little bit more than the majority of visitors. This system has worked very well to improve the Downloader app, so I thought it might help improve AFTVnews as well.

To “ByeAFTVNews” and anyone else who feels the same way, please continue enjoying the site without ever contributing. I honestly mean that. I don’t want anyone to feel they have to pay. You only have my word, for whatever that’s worth, that the Patreon campaign will not negatively affect AFTVnews in any way.

Hmmm, I’m getting a “Can’t open the page” error message with my browser when trying to access https://www.patreon.com/AFTVnews.

  4. Omar says:

    just signed up!

    • AFTVnews says:

Thanks for being the first patron! I really appreciate the support.

(BTW, you accidentally posted this comment in the Downloader update article, so I’ve moved it here where I assume you meant to make it.)

  5. Damien says:

Ill join when my dad gets home. Seems to require payment.

    • AFTVnews says:

Damien, please don’t feel like you need to join. I know you’re young. Honestly, I’d prefer that you specifically never join because you’re an awesome fan. If I could, I’d give you access to the Patreon insider feed for free, just for being the awesome little dude that you are, but I don’t see that as an option on Patreon.

  6. jbrodack says:

I appreciate the work you’ve done and hope you’re successful but I’ve mostly moved on to the Nvidia Shield.

    • AFTVnews says:

That’s totally fine. The Shield is a great device. I’ve been wanting to cover it more, but just haven’t really found anything interesting to do with it, other than the regular stuff everyone already knows about.

      • jbrodack says:

I’d definitely like to see more coverage of the shield tv and other devices though I’m still interested in amazon content and where they are going with their devices. Plus amazon video and some amazon apps do work on the shield.

Maybe have some stuff about using amazon apps on other devices.

I think Patreon in general is great and think it’s a smart move to join it. It allows content creators to get compensation and give extra content to their fans. Everyone benefits including those who don’t pay.

rooting for you. I really like the site, and information.
I’d probably ‘pin’ this topic to the top of your webpage (or a small patreon widget/link somewhere on the front page) because over time this topic will get buried under more news and information that you’ll release… and less and less will know about it
