Hi, I’m Elias. Should we chat about stuff?

Hi everyone. I thought it was about time I introduced myself. I’m Elias Saba, the guy who started/runs AFTVnews and the one who writes everything you read here. I just put up an About Page with some info about the site and myself. I also updated the menu bar a bit while I was at it.

I’ve been thinking of starting a weekly (or maybe bi-monthly?) live podcast/video stream thingy where you, the awesome readers, can ask questions that I’ll answer or suggest topics you want to hear me ramble about. We can talk about the Fire TV, recent posts, AFTVnews itself, blogging, tech in general, or anything you want. Does that sound like something you’d be interested in watching/hearing? Let me know what you think in the comments. Or just pop in and say hi back. Thanks for being the amazing community that you are!

    Hi Elias…

It’s great to put a name & face to AFTNews. In the past here & @ XDA I’ve been referring to you as AFTVNews. Glad I can now just use Elias.

    Congrats on your great success.

Would be great to be able to interact live. In the past you had mentioned moving to a log-in commenting system. Just wondering how is that coming along. We really need an edit/notification option for comments.

Thanks for all you do for the AFTV community…

Hi! I can never remember the numbers in your name so to me you’re “The Y2K Guy.”
Getting live feedback about site changes is definitely a reason to do the live stream. A better comment system is high on my list. I keep flip-flopping between using a system like Disqus or hosting my own system. Disqus doesn’t offer all the features I would want, so I’ve been slowly testing various wordpress plugins. Hopefully I’ll figure it out soon.

      • Y314K says:

I am still catching up on the podcasts but I would defensively make time for a live stream. Use to participate on Android live steams a few years back.

lol, as for my nick. It did kind of start from the Y2K thing. Liked the YK part of it. And I’ve always liked the number pie. So I put both together and got the theoretically never ending year of pie (Y3.141592653589….K)

And most of us understand that a site dealing with tech will expand to more then just a specific device or service. So don’t be discourage from those that don’t understand that…

Let us know if we can help with anything.

Great to put a face to this great site. Congrats on your success.

  3. Pepe says:

Congratulation. This is a great site.

    I wish you success.

Well done on what is a great news site for the fire tv, we now have 3 in the house and always come here for the fab updates and info you offer.

Look forward to seeing what you have planned for us in the future

  5. Simon says:

Hello! Thanks for the awesome site – it’s a daily staple for me so please keep up the good work.

  6. mjbxx says:

You’ve also been cited on the Kodi/Facebook website (https://www.facebook.com/XBMC) regarding your article about that rediculous Kodi Clone app that was approved by Amazon. Great exposure for AFTVnews and keep up the great work!!!

  7. AFTVnews says:

No comments on the possible podcast / stream? Does it sound like something you’d be into?

  8. Omar mata says:

Awesome site like everyone said I check it daily love all the info keep up the spectacular work !

    • Omar mata says:

I’d watch a stream live as long as its at a time when I’m not at work but I’d love to watch and interact

      • AFTVnews says:

Thanks! I know the timing is going to be an issue for people. I’ll put it up on YouTube after the fact. For those who can’t watch live, you can still ask questions when I make the Q&A post about it.

  9. Steve says:

Why do you love fire tv so much?
    How did this all start?

  10. rdaniel23 says:

Been visiting at least once a day since the previous site. Thanks for your efforts!

  11. Alonso says:

Cool. Love the website and its current news. Great Job !!

  12. Alonso says:

Maybe just podcast audio would be cool. i drive a lot so audio podcast is a suggestion from me. i would just like to listen to weekly news on everything that has happen in that week. so far there is no amazon fire tv podcast news that i know of other than yours..

    • AFTVnews says:

I’ll keep that in mind. Maybe I’ll do a rundown of the news first before answering questions. I haven’t fully figured it out yet. Just going to wing it and figure things out as I go. I’ll try to pull the audio and put it u as a podcast if I keep the show going.

  13. Joe says:

Hi Elias, This is a great site and service that you are providing. Thanks for doing it.

As for the interactive live video podcast, that is a great idea but what I would like to see is community forum. You have built a great site and following and I think a forum would help greatly so that everyone can share their knowledge and help each other. Posts made under specific news item get missed and most times forget where it was posted. So having a forum will build a great resource for the AFTV community. It would be my number one request as currently I have to scour around different sites to get the information I may be looking for.

Whatever you decide for the direction you will take this site, I wish all the best !!! :)

    • AFTVnews says:

Thanks! And thanks for the feedback. Forum and comments are top on my list of improvements for the site. I’ve been trying to find a solution that incorporates the two into one. I prefer not to have the discussion split into both comments on a post and a separate forum thread about a post. I’m testing something out that essentially turns the comment system into a forum thread so that it all lives in one place. It’s not as polished as I like, so if I can’t get it to behave soon, I’ll break down and create a seperate forum.

      • Y314K says:

This sounds very promising, I’ve yet to see something like this that doesn’t require be done thru facebook. Hope it works out & is stand-alone.

Hi Elias, You have a fantastic website, Iv been using this website since last summer, everyday this is the first website I check for news and updates, You are doing a fantastic job and better than everything else out there. Living in the UK I like to be kept up to date with everything AFTV. Keep up the good work and long may your website and news info last.

  15. unknownsoldier says:

An awesome website Elias! I check out AFTVnews multiple times on a daily basis for honest and informative advice. A weekly or bi-monthly “tallback” podcast would certainly add a new dimension to all things Amazon!

  16. Matt says:

Great to meet you. Your site is without a doubt the best resource for news on FTV. A Podcast would be cool.

  17. Hello Elias! We’ve already chatted via email in the past, but I feel you are doing a far better job of promoting the new releases and features on the FTV than Amazon themselves! Without this site I’d have no idea what was happening on the FTV, so it’s a vital daily bookmark for me too :)

    • AFTVnews says:

Hi James! That was a good discussion we had about the state of gaming on the Fire TV. It’s that sort of stuff that I think others would like to hear in this new podcast thing. Our discussion helped sow the seed in a way.

  18. Sunrise 495 says:

Look at you! Live broadcasting… Count me in. Not sure where you find the time, but keep it up. So should we now donate Red Bull to the site? I deal with a lot of technology in my job, and I go to your website to relax and take a break during the day…. scary but true.
Congratulations to all your hard work. Thanks again.

  19. omontero says:

Awesome site and great work. If you have an Amazon Fire this site is a must.

  20. nate says:

I’d love to see some game reviews

  21. Vic says:

Yes please do Q&As. There a lot of small questions that I’m sure the community would like answers to

  22. Dave in Maine says:

Elias, I think another podcast would be great. I hope you still continue to do the Cord Cutter podcast with Lucas and Ryan as well. I look forward to those. You do a great job keeping us informed on everything Fire TV, and I consider this site the best place by far for news on that topic.

Some questions/hopes I have is Amazon ever going to add user editable folders to the Watchlist area? I have 70+ videos queued up in my Watchlist and what a mess it is to scroll endlessly to the right or left to go through them all. Folders by genre would be great. Add/move movies to Horror, Sci-Fi, Drama, etc.

Also is Amazon ever going to allow us to correct the album art for music files we have uploaded to the Cloud Player and in turn can play on the Fire TV and IOS/Android devices via the Amazon Music app, I have over 19,000 songs uploaded and many of them have the wrong album cover. Frustrating.

    Thanks for all your help.

  23. Ray Fox says:

Just wanted to say a huge *thank you* for creating such a fantastic site. aftvnews.com is a regular stop for me, and I nearly always find a timely and interesting article here. Your How-Tos are second to none. I never would have gotten through the entire rooting and set-up process without your top-notch tutorials. Keep up the great work. And thanks!

  24. Masterblaster8987 says:

Thank you Elias for your passion and hard work in the aftv community. The cord cutting cause is now taken seriously throughout all tech industries, studios, and broadcasters. We all want choice to watch how we want. Where we want. Without a huge bill. Keep the fight going!
