Fire TVs can now also ask Alexa for local business addresses, phone numbers, and operating hours

Last month, the Amazon Echo gained the ability to query local business information through an integration of Alexa with Yelp. That functionality has now been added to Alexa on Fire TV devices. If you have a 2nd-gen Fire TV or a Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote bundle, you can now use your voice to search for local businesses like restaurants. Simply try saying something like “Find me a nearby Chinese restaurant” and Alexa will read off a list of locations in your area matching your request. Be sure to have your zipcode set in your Fire TV settings first. You can also ask Alexa what time a place opens/closes, or for the location’s phone number. If you ask where a particular business is, Alexa will respond with the place’s address as well as how far away it is from your location. Currently, there is now visual display on the Fire TV for this particular Alexa feature. This new feature, as well as all Alexa capabilities, will be coming to 1st-gen Fire TVs and older Fire TV Sticks in January through a software update.
