Doctor Who returns exclusively to Amazon Prime Video

Amazon has picked up the exclusive US rights to stream all past and future episodes of Doctor Who in the US, according to a report by Variety. Seasons one through eight, including holiday specials, will be available for free to Amazon Prime members starting March 27th, with season nine becoming available this fall. Just over a year ago, Amazon chose not to renew their arrangement with the BBC, resulting in the loss of Doctor Who, and other BBC shows, from Amazon’s Prime Video lineup. The reason for not reuping the deal at the time was lack of exclusivity. Now that Netflix’s rights to Doctor Who have expired, Amazon and the BBC were able to agree on a new multiyear contract making Amazon the only place in the US to stream Doctor Who.
