Amazon to host series of live concerts exclusively for Prime members

Amazon’s list of Prime benefits has been steadily expanding over time, and they’ve just added one more item. The company will start its own series of live music concerts with tickets available exclusively to Prime members. The venues will be small and intimate, and the shows will be recorded and made available through Prime Video.

The first concert will be held in London at the Round Chapel on May 23 featuring Blondie. Other concerts through May, June, and July will feature Alison Moyet, Texas, and Katie Melua with each playing one-off shows. Ticket prices start at £75 ($100) and will be sold by Amazon’s own Tickets service.

The first four shows will all be in London, but Amazon says additional concerts will be announced. It’s unknown if any will be hosted in the US.

This is certainly one of the stranger Prime membership perks, but the size of the shows indicates Amazon is not focused on making revenue from ticket sales, but rather, providing customers unique opportunities in a similar manner to exclusive concierge services provided by elite credit cards.

I would have hoped they could stream these live for Prime Members as well. It would be a big advertising opportunity, just as Coachella did.
