Amazon rumored to launch free Video News App for Fire TVs

Amazon is reportedly working on a free ad-supported video news app for Fire TVs, according to The Information. This is the same news outlet that correctly predicted the launch of Amazon’s free ad-supported IMDb Freedive video service, so there’s reason to believe this rumored video news app is at least being considered.

The rumored news app is said to feature both live and on-demand news programming from TV networks. Amazon is said to be in talks with news organizations and Verizon, which owns Yahoo News and Yahoo Finance, to acquire content deals for the new streaming video app. They are also talking to local news affiliates in order to provide local news coverage in the app.

The new video news app is said to be a response to Roku, which features news in its free Roku Channel. Other popular free apps, such as Pluto TV and Plex, also use video news to draw customers in. Sources say the new video news app from Amazon may also integrate into Alexa devices. The app is said to launch in the next few months.

This explains why Alexa suddenly refuses to say “Flash Briefing” anymore. News branding.

Great. Just what I needed — the Washington Compost on my devices.

Please be aware that I do not allow the discussion of politics on this site. I’m not saying that your comment is inappropriate. I’m just saying that it can potentially begin a political argument, which I’d like to avoid since those discussions always require a good deal of babysitting on my part. I hope you understand my reasoning for this decision.

I imagine that Bezos’s news stories will not be flattering to the current POTUS. Looks like we have the makings of CNN 2.0 just in time for the 2020 election cycle.

Yes yes, Len and Mike. The determination of the value of a source of information is the degree to which it agrees and reinforces what you already believe. Contrasting or views inconsistent with what you believe are invalid and to be avoided.

Seriously, there is no way such thinking results in a brittle ideology or an unsophisticated understanding of political theory.

Yeah, no way that turns out badly, either on the individual intellect or policy on the macro-society level. No precedent for that at all…

You guys just keep on keeping on. If it can’t be chanted in a rally or fit on a bumper sticker or a ballcap, it can’t possibly be true.

Speaking for myself, I get most of my information in text on the web, with some received over the radio. I take it all in regardless of whether I agree with it or not. As a practice, I make a point of listening or reading sources with biases I may not carry to ensure that those I do are valid.

If you don’t do the same, well, I pity you, and mourn the damage you don’t realize, or perhaps don’t care that you’re doing.

Here’s hoping that the app has the capability to deliver information to challenge perspectives. Anyone that would discount such a thing doesn’t understand what the revolutionaries that brought the first amendment into existence were even talking about.

I understand completely Elias, and will hence forward only strive towards harmonic theses.
