Amazon is already the exclusive home for several great PBS Masterpiece shows like Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge, and The Escape Artist. Today the two companies announced an expanded licensing agreement which will make Prime Instant Video the only place to watch all PBS Masterpiece shows in the near future. Shows like Poldark, Wolf Hall, Grantchester, and many more will make their way over to Prime Instant Video shortly after they’ve aired on PBS. The deal also extends to popular kids’ series like Odd Squad, Wild Kratts, and others.
This deal is a continuation of Amazon’s decision to focus on exclusive content for Prime Instant Video, and letting non-exclusive deals expire without renewal. The company spent $1.3 billion last year signing deals like this one. An Amazon VP told TechRadar that the company plans to “double down” on Prime Instant Video this year, so you can expect even more exclusive content being made available only to Prime members in the near future.
