Amazon is now in the market of manufacturing and selling their own ARM-based processors, similar to the ones found in Fire TV devices, through their subsidiary Annapurna Labs, a chip designer Amazon acquired for $350 million a year ago. The new chips, called the Alpine line, is designed to be used in products like WiFi routers, media streaming devices, smart home products, and data storage devices. Synology, Netgear, and Asus are among the companies already onboard to build devices with these new processors. Perhaps someday we’ll see Amazon’s own hardware running on their own chips.
