Amazon Fire TV discounted for the first time, now selling for $84

boatload-of-apps

For the first time since its release in April, the Amazon Fire TV is outright on sale. To celebrate “a boatload of new apps”, the Fire TV has been discounted $15 for a limited time. In the past, we’ve seen the device bundled with tablets and TVs for a discount. We’ve also seen it reduced for a very small subset of customers, but until today, the Fire TV has never dropped below its $99 price tag for everyone. If you’ve been thinking about getting a Fire TV for a friend or a second TV, now’s your chance to save a little money. There’s no word on when this discounted price will end.

Update

8/13@2:35pm Thanks to a tip from reader Timothy M. who received an email from Amazon, we now know that this discounted price is good through Friday August 15th. Also, I’ve received word that people are successfully getting Best Buy and Staples to price match this discounted price.

Probably nothing to infer from sales being slow. I’ll bet the timing is more due to Apple’s iTunes $25 gift card offer to AppleTV buyers, which makes that product seem a bit cheaper.

Yup, BestBuy.com matched the Amazon price shortly after it went live. If you are able to snag a mover’s coupon from the post office, you can get an additional 10% off as well. I grabbed one for $81.xx out the door.
