Amazon expands Alexa’s global knowledge of local businesses with new partnership

Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant has offered local business information ever since they partnered with Yelp nearly 3 years ago, but now that database is growing by over 1 million business locations through a new partnership with Yext, according to Bloomberg. Yext supplies information about local business by aggregating information from Google searches, Facebook pages, and even Apple’s Siri. They also partner with business like McDonald’s, T-Mobile, and Rite Aid Corp, to directly keep their data up to date. The information being provided to Alexa about local business includes addresses, phone numbers, and hours of operation. Yext says that Amazon Alexa will initially use their data to respond to queries about business in Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, the UK, and the US, with an expansion to cover other countries in the future.
