Amazon Echo now includes Google Calendar support

The Amazon Echo is by far my second favorite product made by Amazon, next only to the Fire TV of course. One thing that makes it so great is the aggressive rate at which Amazon is adding features to the device. Just this week, Amazon added Google calendar support. You can now ask “Alexa, What’s on my calendar?” and hear your next 7 events. If you want to check something more specific, you can say “what’s on my calendar Saturday?” or “what’s on my calendar tomorrow at 9PM?” to get a specific day or time’s events.

Echo can’t add events to your calendar yet, but given how often new capabilities are being added, I’m sure that’s coming down the line. In May alone, Echo received additional flash briefing sources, the ability to re-order Prime products, access to Prime Music stations, and integration with IFTTT. I look forward to see what June will bring and can’t wait for Fire TV integration of some sort. Those of you with Echo’s, what are your thoughts so far and what do you want to see in the future? Let us know in the comments.

I bought the Echo thinking I would use it primarily as a bluetooth speaker but have been pleasantly surprised how handy the voice commands are. I love this thing.

Please Amazon, let me use the Echo to launch apps with my voice on the Fire TV! Even just Play/Pause voice controls for the Fire TV through the Echo would be awesome.

I’d love to see support for the Logitech Harmony Smart Hub which I now use to control my firetv and the rest of my entertainment center. But I suspect we’d see direct firetv support sooner than that. I’m also excited about the sdk coming out for the firetv so the home devs/hackers can start integrating the echo stuff.

    “Alexa, TV on”

I have 2, 1 upstairs and 1 on the main floor. They were purely used for music before the Home Automation and IFTTT now I ise it for almost everything that it can do. I even got my wife to use it. Yes Fire TV voice would be super great!!!
