Amazon drops refurbished Amazon Echos to $79.99

Now that Amazon has sold out of Echos after dropping the price to $99.99 a couple weeks ago, they’ve moved on to clear out refurbished units. The Certified Refurbished Amazon Echo has just dropped down to $79.99. That’s $50 less than the previous price of $129.99 and is the lowest price Amazon has ever priced any version of the Echo. If you can still get in on the $69.99 Amazon Echo sale at QVC, you’re better off going that route because that’s for a new unit, but if that sells out or if you prefer buying directly from Amazon, this price for a refurb Echo is hard to beat. Amazon is expected to announce a new Echo later this year, which is likely why several retailers seem to be clearing out stock with rock bottom prices. It’s pretty safe to bet the new Echo will not be less than $100, so these fire sale prices are still a great deal even if a new model is coming out soon.

Any guesses on whether there’s likely to be a promotional offer for the New Echo? Seems amazon’s offered great introductory offers on things like the revamped Fire TV Devices and am curious if you think it’s likely that they’ll do it for the New Echo too.

I would be shocked if either the next gen Echo or Fire TV devices have any kind of pre-order discount. Amazon usually only does that for new category devices and hasn’t done it in a while. The best we can probably hope for is a discount for buying multiple units at once.

Thanks! When I bought the 2nd generation Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote, there wasn’t a price discount but it came with great lengthy free trials for various paid apps like Sling, so was hoping (apparently misguidedly) for something along those lines with the new Echo.

They could offer to pay me to take one and I’d refuse. Screw that spy device listening to everything. No thanks.

Still overpriced. I regret buying any Echo devices. They understand me 50% of the time and are capable of what I want done 30% of the time. This isn’t worth $80 brand new.
