Amazon bundles existing Fire TV Stick with New Voice Remote for $49

In addition to the new Fire TV, Amazon has introduced a new bundle which groups together the existing Fire TV Stick with a brand new revised voice remote for $49.99. This new bundle is also available in the UK and Germany. This new remote is nearly identical to the one that comes with the new Fire TV. It connects to the Fire TV Stick via wifi direct, instead of bluetooth, for improved latency and battery life. With the existing Fire TV Stick gaining full Alexa capabilities soon, there’s more reason to want a voice remote as opposed to the old non-voice remote that previously came with the Fire TV Stick. The new bundle is available for pre-order today and will be released October 22nd.

So does the stick have wifi direct, or is the voice remote in this bundle the old version?

    • AFTVnews says:

The 1st-gen Fire TV and the Fire TV stick will both be able to connect to the new remote and new game controller via wifi direct. The remote in this bundle is a new remote that is wifi based, but is slightly different than the one the comes with the Fire TV. It’s just made with slightly cheaper materials but is functionally the same.

Thanks. I went ahead and posted the new/unopened voice remote I had bought on ebay today. Amazon would have charged me $7 to return it.

I have a spare remote for the “old” Fire TV. It works on my old Fire TV. It will not pair with my “new” Fire TV.

What can I do to make it work on my new Fire TV?
