Amazon announces new Echo Wall Clock

Amazon has announced a new Echo Wall Clock. Much like the new AmazonBasics Microwave with Alexa capabilities, the Echo Wall Clock does not actually have Alexa built-in, nor does it have microphones or a speaker in the device itself. Instead, it falls into the Alexa Gadget category of devices and serves as a companion to Echo devices to serve as a visual indicator for Alexa timers and reminders.

The Echo Wall Clock features a ring of LEDs that surround a standard analog clock face. These LEDs automatically light up to provide a visual indicator of your Alexa timers and reminders when you set one through an Alexa device. The clock will light up the LED closest to when the timer or reminder is set to alert you and it supports multiples of each. The ring of lights will all light up and begin to tick off as a countdown during the final 60 seconds of a timer.

The Echo Wall Clock connects to Echo devices via Bluetooth. It uses this connection to set its time and will automatically adjust as needed for daylight savings. The Echo Wall Clock will be $29.99 when it’s released, but it’s not yet available for pre-order. You may sign-up to be notified when the Echo Wall Clock is available.

Is ir just me or is this one of the most useless Alexa-enabled devices announced? While there’s still no true successor to Fire TV 2?!

Does this run on a battery? Or does it have to be plugged in?

I think it could be useful in a kitchen or an office.
